Been selling off lots of stuff and thought about what would be the most sensible under $1K purchase to make right now
that would get lots of use. I'm also limited with space. Settled on the Stomp for a number of reasons:

- solves limited with space
- will use it direct into a PowerStation & guitar cab for morning and late evening playing - rest the tubes!
- definitely going to mess with it as FX only in the loop when using amps.
- with the shape/weight of the Strandbergs I'm gonna get back to jamming while sitting on the couch/bed.

No 4CM cause I already have the front end covered with analog pedals. First modeler in a couple of years so I'm stoked.
Not my first Line 6 unit though, by a very long shot.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I just sold mine. I've bought one sold it then bought another one. For some reason I love this device. I had a Kemper and was always tweaking instead of playing. With this I just played. The patches take more effort to dial in. I bought some choptones and a few others and was quite happy.

I ended up selling mine to fund another purchase. I have a Quad Cortex on order or else I would probably get another one.

Great little unit! I'd recommend 3rd party IRs but def some killer tones in there. My brother in law has the helix and loves the new Diezel amp.

With a recent update it's got 8 blocks now instead of 6. I went from Fractal to a PodGo and I honestly don't miss the FM3 one bit. Mesa is my main setup but it's nice having the PodGo around and not having a lot of money into it. I also use it as FX old sometimes, into an amp at band practice so I'm not dragging a bunch of stuff around, direct into my PC for late night practice, etc.

The way I'll use it is to insert a mono L FX out right before the amp and IR blocks so the extra blocks might come in handy.

Mesa is my main rig(s) too. Any good Mesa like stock presets for me to get started with?

Jason Sadites has some really nice Helix tutorials that would translate to HX Stomp.

One of my gripes with the Helix though is the lack of different modes for some amps. For example, the Cali Rectifire seems to only be the red/Modern mode. When I had a TOV and Roadster I tended to prefer the Orange/Vintage with an OD in front.

There's a nice tutorial out there somewhere for using one of the Mark IV amp blocks for a good '80's MoP/AJFA Hetfield tone.

My best tip though: explore the Line 6 original amp blocks. Badonk and Cartographer are really special IMO and don't take up as much DSP, which is really important particularly on the Stomp if you want to use any post-amp effects. Both clean up well with the volume knob or can be set to decent cleans. Snapshots are your friend.

I also use my Helix Floor into a PS-2 with a 1x12 as my main at-home practice rig. It's a solid match. I've been using my recently-purchased Mesa Thiele 1x12 and it's quite versatile.

Biggest issue at home has been that my dog sees me put on the guitar and somehow associates that with play time, so grabs a toy, trots over, and starts pushing the toy into my guitar as I'm trying to play. It's really cute but really freaking annoying. Thankfully they're rubber/Kong toys so no scratches.

Sweet. Thanks!

All my reverb and delay are handled with pedals thru the PS loop which is going to makes things easy.
Kong Toys.

I got the Metallica pack from Choptones and it did really well. I highly recommend it. This thread has me missing my stomp. Hopefully the quad cortex wont be too much longer.

I sold almost all my gear after getting a stomp to get a helix rack. Couple of rack preamps, helix, poweramp and stomp as a backup has cured almost all my gear wants. I do crave new rack preamps though :D
