The consensus seems to be narrow and on the smaller side- good things for me. Then again you can never say until you play it. Come on....SATURDAY

Yeah, based on what you've said you like, it sounds like something that will work for you. All the same reasons they don't work for me hahah. Let us know what you think when you get it!

FWIW the 1.650 which you see on 99% of Suhrs is too small for my preference. My 2 custom Moderns have the wider 1.687 which are prefect. You wouldn't think you could notice that much difference but you sure can.

I sold the 4 I had with 1.650 in favor for the 1.687

Yep, a lot of people prefer the wider nut width found on Ibanez, Jackson, Gibson etc. I seem to be in the minority that prefers the 1.650 or 1 5/8 nut width. I absolutely love the neck on Suhr Modern Satins, which is why I have two. They might not be that flashy or jaw dropping cosmetically, but they are perfect for me. They are the first guitars that I have ever owned that I will take to the grave. My others are great, but I could realistically see them on the classifieds one day in the distant future. Not the Suhrs though.

I have had my Suhr Modern since 2009, when I picked it up from Make n Music in Chicago. Was looking at several guitars. Tyler, Petrucci, the Suhr and a few other small builders. The Tyler neck I liked a little better, but I prefer a Hum hum guitar. It was hum single single and a 22 fret guitar. The Petrucci neck is just too thin for me, has amwider nexk, flag board, but the neck is just way too thin for me. The Suhr Modern was bit thicker, and much more comfortable. Not to mention SS frets, my first guitar with them. I don't regret my decision 1 bit, and it was over 1000 cheaper than the Tyler. Has the Gotoh Floyd, which is great. NEVER goes out of tune. I did add a big brass block, and the Tremel-No. probably 40-50 guitars have come and gone and it is one of the few that stick around. Thin but comfortable. I have giant Becker guitars, and can pick this up and be fine.

my Suhr has what I'd consider a slightly wider neck than the typical strat. It almost feels like a Jackson.

I have to totally disagree with this. Every Modern I've ever played used a 1.65 nut. Jacksons use 11/16ths (1.6875). It's one of the reasons I think I've never gotten along with any of the Suhrs I've tried. Sounds like this could be a good thing though for the OP.

This. SavageRiffer is talking out of his ass. The necks on these Suhr Modern Satins are not wide at all.....I should know, as I have two of them. Pay no attention to SavageRiffer's comments. The Satins are great guitars.....my favorites actually.

You were so eager to be a little troll, as usual, that you made a complete fool of yourself. I never said the Suhr Modern Satins have wide necks dummy. Is that your great contribution to this thread, a couple of trolling comments that you were totally mistaken about? You need medication and reading lessons.

You ignorant bastard, "your" Suhr has the SAME EXACT NUT WIDTH as the Satins that I own.....yet you say it's wide??? You fucking idiot, you are the one making a fool of yourself because you were caught making a false statement. As I said before, you are simply talking out of your ass as usual.....now, GO FUCK YOURSELF, BITCH!

Complete and utter BULLSHIT STATEMENT. Do you have any idea just how fucking stupid you sound here? "What I'd consider...." As if you had a clue what you are even talking about, ya stupid fuck! :D

I've owned several Suhrs and still have a custom Standard (my #1) along with a modern satin.

The Modern satin is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned...very lively but full. As someone else mentioned, I don't usually care for the Ssh+ but it works great in the satin. Plus it's really the perfect gigging guitar as its so light.

My only complaint is I don't care for the 14" radius fretboard...wish it had something a little more round or a compound board.

Leaving in an hour to go pick this thing up. Was supposed to be here Saturday but was pushed back to Monday delivery- which I wouldn't be home for. Had them hold it for me to pick up. It will have to sit in my car for another 4-5 hours until I get home from work. Succckks.

Great guitars. For playability... near impossible to beat. Suhr has the high-end, super high build quality Strat shape down pat. I recently picked up an Antique Classic S with similar specs and love it. The Gotoh 510 is stable and very reliable so far. I think you will not be dissapointed.
Ya, I'd have to agree with this statement. I've had a couple and they were superior guitars, my only beef is I can't get on with bolt-on neck guitars typically speaking...just a personal thing.

If this doesn't float your boat, check out ESPs lineup, they're beautiful guitars, the MIJs are incredibly high quality, and the playability -for me- out of the box was 10/10. And they continue to be my guitar of choice for smooth, slick, fast as shit playing. Great guitars - keep 'em in mind

Hope your Suhr works out though!!

I played an old 90's ESP last weekend that was pretty killer. It was a bolt on model of some kind. Ugly as sin paint job on it though. Horizons have been on my radar for some time now- just haven't gotten around to actually buying one yet. It will happen.

The real question is do I sneak this bitch into my office when I get back or do I show some self restraint and professionalism.

Owned the custom modern in my avatar. Moment of madness letting her go. Had a few high end guitars in the interim & have ended up with a Suhr Pro Tele. It plays & sounds so awesome. Suhr seem to get all the basic ingredients right.

Not to derail the thread here... I got an Eclipse not so recently from another forumite here, and man, I really have come to love that guitar. I wasn't a LP guy before, and when I play my other guitar player's LP Studio, it just sort of pales in comparison in nearly every way. The Japanese ESP's kick ass.

I had a guy that works with me turn down working a Saturday (overtime) because he wanted to pick up a new bass drum head that had his bands logo on it.

You guys are getting old...sissies.

Just kidding I didn't have the balls to bring her in.

On another note- I've been playing for about 5 hours. Full on honeymoon has begun.

Congrats! The way that you guys are describing the neck has me really intrigued. I have a Classic Pro S (well, I should say I own one. I bought it in April and it has lived at the Suhr factory since) but once I get it back the Modern Satin will probably be the next one I grab.
