He answered that he is using a Suhr SL68.

I'm guessing the Marshalls are either a.) the other guitarists or b.) Dave's desire to have a 'wall of Marshalls'

Yes answer ‘b’

Fantastic and congrats!

Really bummed I missed it when it rolled through my town recently. Been watching every clip I can find! Great to hear Dave settling comfortably into his catalog and the band is absolutely killing!

And of course...major SL68 want.

Thanks....and you da’man...though now I’m whoring for a SL68

That's awesome!! When I heard that Dave was going solo and Vai wasn't involved, I thought, meh. But then I read that you landed the spot and thought, hell YES! I can't think of anyone that can pull off that setlist short of Ed and Steve better than you.

I'm glad that the world will get to hear you, you deserve it.

The SL68 sounds great on all the different tracks, from early Ed to Vai, good job Al.

sounds killer DLR sounds really good and Al is murdering it!

I saw VH only once. They opened for The Rolling Stones (Some Girls tour) at the T-Bowl in Orlando in '81. The pic on the back of Diver Down was taken from that concert. David Lee Roth (w/Steve Vai/Billy Sheehan/Greg Bissonette) was easily as good, maybe better. They were headlining, so...

Whatcha playing through?

Suhr SL68
That's the amp Guy Hedrick designed/built while he was with Suhr, is it not?

No Pete Thorn asked John Suhr about a '68 Marshall and John said "Ill build you one" SL68 was born, Pete has SN 001...

Such may be the case, but, I heard that the SL68 is a Guy Hedrick design based on Marshall plexi. Whatever... I'd love to own one.

those amps are phenomenal... i too would love to own one. since that amp landed..i alwyas felt like that was THE amp EVH should've built, sold, marketed, etc... old plexi vibe, built-in variac... yea. In Pete's video he says it conceived from a conversation between he and John...but whatever, amp is totally badass, and Al rocks the shat out of it!

If memory serves, both Jim Kelly and Guy Hedrick were both doing builds for Suhr at that time. I had a chance to purchase an SL68 for a crazy great price, but passed on.

There was no Guy Hendrick involved it was all John Suhr! John had tweaked a Marshall for me which was based on EVH’s Marshall, John showed me how to run it with the variac and a load box Pete was there and heard it when I was picking it up and he wanted an amp like this so then John started the SL 68 model. By the way Pete Thorn was the one who recommended me for an audition for the DLR band! Pete was asked to audition but was already committed to a tour and was unavailable to commit to any Roth show dates so I totally lucked out! Right place at the right time I guess?

That's so awesome! DLR is one of the greatest entertainers ever. I'll bet he's a blast to hang-out with. Maybe you'll get the chance to jam with Eddie as well.

Far as I know Eddie is out of pocket and sadly (potentially) battling issues with cancer. Something tells me Eddie will not be showing up at David's gigs to cheer him on and jam with Mr Estrada back stage or on the bus. :dunno:

Hope I'm wrong here TBH
