He was playing for Melissa Ethridge (on The View..... I know don't ask) and was using an amber EVH guitar. Tone was great as always. Couldn't see it but I'm sure it was his PT-100 behind the tone.

He's been using his Axe-Fx direct on all of Melissa's T.V. gigs ....

Now the OP will have to say "Come to think of it, the high end did sound kinda digital".

Actually, since I DVR'd it and played it back 28 times his tone does sound kind of thin and fizzy. It could have cut through so much better if he was using real tubes.

J/K. No, I have always liked the tone of the Axe-FX and am not surprised if he was using it. I'm not an Axe-fx hater, in fact, I am the total opposite. I have heard Pete use it before and it sounds great. Then again, he makes everything sound great.

I was just playin' wit ya. :)

ya I used only the Axe FX on The View. On a few other TV shows as well, and on a short euro tour.

On Leno, it was the full rig...

Just depends on the gig. It's a hell of alot more cost effective to fly with a 2 rack space piece of gear than an entire rig- and the Axe sounds great. It's more fun and of course has that big rock sound when I have all my stuff, but there's other factors at play in this biz of course.

I'm doing a Don Henley one-off in September, and I'm gonna use the axe on that too, with a couple atomic wedges. At this point, the technology has advanced far enough where I'd much rather be able to work my tones out at home on studio monitors, with all my effects, delay times, etc. programmed, than use an unpredictable rental amp and cab at a show, with just some pedals. I'm kind of a "programmer"- more a rack guy than a pedal guy. I like to hit one button and SHAZAM there's the perfect sound for that song, not tap dance on pedals.

Very cool Pete ..... big fan of Melissa and a little jealous of this gig.

Now that would NEVER happen on RT :D

Couldn't agree with you more Pete. I'm doing a couple of festival type shows coming up and they're providing backline. I made a huge mistake a few years ago by using the backline and it was a nightmare gig. Being able to just run my axe direct to FOH and to my IEM is great.

Cool. When I first saw the post I was afraid he was seen on "Cops" and was the shirtless long-hair hiding under the empty kiddy-pool behind the trailer home. Then the police dog gets him by the ankle and...

Ah, you know what I mean.  :D

I guess I could have been a little more specific in the subject line but I wasn't going to put the "The View" in the post. I have a reputation to uphold.
