IIC+!!

Just retubed it with TAD tubes - matching mesa color green and red - all 6L6. It's amazing. Original DRG. Simply can't stop playing it. Even at very low volume it sounds astonishing, sustain for days.

Also picked up a Wizard Modern Classic II '16 yesterday, that's awesome as well. It's the 3rd time I own this head. I think its the best Wizard model available (I've had MTL '16, MC1 '13 and another MCII '14). I need the high end like old Marshalls.

That's a few good amps right there!

Never played the IIC+ but owned several MKIIIs and a loop modded MKIIB and I like the Mark amps. From the way guys describe the IIC+, I always assume the IIB had a lot of what people love about the IIC+. There was a feel under the fingers and huge sonic footprint that the IIB had that I've not experienced in another amp. It was so touch sensitive and had a very bouncy easy feeling almost like it played itself. It moved so much air.

I have a ' 16 MCII now and previously owned a '17 and '20 MCII, MC25, Hybrid, & MTL. I like the MCII best.

Owned a similar JMP. '77 I believe it was, and owned a '78-'79 and neither did much for me. Tried them with 6-7 ODs including an SD-1 and still couldn't get into the metal tones I like.

You can pretty much cover any tone you want with that trio. Maybe add another Recto at some point? Although the C+ has the same low mid centric Mesa tone like a Recto, with much tighter lows.
These amps may cure your GAS...at least for a while....

I do miss my old rev f. When one comes for sale I am def gonna snag that :)

I've not played a Wizard but I sold off my C+ a while back because I just vastly prefer an old JMP. Those are the best amps for me. Hard to get them super saturated and they don't have huge thumping low end, but they just sound so solid and chunky; cutting but with a sweetness to the top end.

Yep fully agree on all ends, it’s why I’m not big on mesas myself either. Anytime you try to go for super low end on a Marshall it normally loosens up in a bad way and hollows out the mids. We all know the bass knob on a Marshall isn’t a bass knob at all, it really is more like a low mid knob.

Do you remember James Lugo’s vast amp shootout from around 2009 or so? He must have demo‘d around 30 - 40 different amps. Most of the big names and modders were represented. I and many others thought the bone stock ‘79 JMP sounded best. Wish I had the clips. Used to be posted on either sound cloud, or sound click file hosting website. Can’t remember where exactly.

My desert island amp is my 72. The push of a 100w Wizard, boosted, with real Marshall mids..nothing better to my ears.

Some guys don't like when I mention it, but there really is something to the mids of both my '67 and '79 JMP2203 that none of my other 25 amps have. This is where other amps come off hollow to me, however, my Wizard MTL still punches so hard in such a way that none of my other amps can do. Not that it punches more than other amps, just harder if that makes sense. I'm not convinced that any Marshall can match that one aspect of it, but who knows. I'm hoping a Larry or Schroeder Formula could maybe do it or fingers crossed exceed it there. Seems no amp has it all IME

I thought Lugo's Friedman JMP sound best of all.
