which is better for Metal? not NuMetal or this new shit like Trivium..... Old School Thrash.

Old school thrash?? Engl? Can you imaging how huge Engls amps would have been in the 80s??

YOur Axe-fx of course will..............................oh yeah that's gone.

Well your Sig-X will get you.......crap forgot.

Ok...your XXX no doubt will......................shit.

Any of your Randalls will do....................fuck.

How about your PODXT Pro, that should.........................ah forget it.

If you go with the JVM, try the 2 channel model over the 410. Much warmer voicing and not as buzzy in my opinion. I've had the 205H longer than I have owned any amp and I just played the 410 Wednesday.............and it is indeed different.

I've also owned a Pro Mod and Competition and prefer the JVM

I prefer the JVM over both Splawns I owned. :scared:

I also preferred the DSL50 to my Splawns....that may be sacrelige(sp), but it is true

Prefer the Axe Fx over either option though

I really liked the JVM I played. If I were to buy a new off-the-shelf Marshall, it would be a JVM.

I think the Engl amps like the Powerball and Savage really have 80's thrash covered. The Powerball really does a great Kill Em All tone without having to crank it. And the Blackmore is probably even warmer sounding with a great clean.

The JVM is built like a cheap toy and i wonder how it holds up with guys who gig every weekend? If i didn't have to worry about volume i would go with the Splawn for metal tones. Keep in mind i would rather go with a boosted JCM800 over a JVM.

For $700 you can get also try a Boogie Mark III.

I have a friend with a Pro-Mod. That thing can nail old school Slayer tones. My vote is for that

get a JMP or JCM and boost it with a pedal, there pretty reasonable right now and IMO smoke the new marshalls

Engl's sound too modern for old school thrash IMO, especially the Powerball.

I'd also go with a JCM-800 with a boost. Maybe the Kerry King jcm-800 head?? which has a boost built in basically... i guess those amps are kinda pricey though?

+1 on that!!!

I agree with Danyeo about JVM's build quality, if you hit one of the front pcb-mounted knobs hard enough, you will be buying a pcb assy. the knobs are not mounted to the chassis, they go through the front panel directly to the board. There is more movement there than you see with one bolted to chassis, but IMO, they sound real good, and are very versitile for live work. I like mine enough to keep it - Jim

Gigged my JVM for over a year and never had any problems with it.

I got rid of the Axe-FX.....yes. (maybe I should start a thread on it   )

For several reasons.

1. I need a rig, a more traditional rig, to showcase some of the HBE and Gutierrez stuff.
2. I spent more time tweaking and playing with the AFX more than actually playing, the thing was too much fun in that aspect.
3. I enjoy flipping amps, I enjoy trying out new stuff, so I decided to let it go and try some new stuff, things I haven't tried before.

:D

Now as to the poll: I want to try a Marshall/Marshall style amp.... I've only had a Valvestate before. I'm not big on boosting amps, I'd rather have one I can just plug in and go, hence the JVM & Splawn, I'd KILL for a Cameron, but chances of that right now are slim.
