I will say at retarded volumes something seems to be choking the JVM, it will not roar like a JMP.

 Use something to control the Splawn and it wins and you will be Happy! Even at home. Man get it out and turn it up, ;) And you will be floored! They are worth every cent they cost! But Marshall makes some really decent amps and they are the standard used to measure by!

+1

Well guess I'm getting a Pro-Mod. I figure I'll try and pick up a hot plate to tame it volume-wise.

Guess we'll see if I'll like splawns stuff.

Try a hotplate/attenuator, and try an FX unit of somekind in the loop that has an output knob, you can really tame the volume down a lot without hurting the tone. It doesn't work well with most other amps I've tried, but it's worked great in both of the Quickrods I've owned.

I don't think you're going to like an attenuator with the amp..I tried it and didn't really see the benefit....I use an intellifex in the loop..but that's only for EXTREME low volume...I'm talking, baby in the next room napping, can hear the strings on the guitar over what's comming outta the cab, volume....

couple hints

to reign in the volume a little, put it on half power..is it that much quieter? no....but it'll make the master a little less of a hair trigger

also, when playing with the volume really really low, keep the solo boost knob at at least 9:00..don't ENGAGE THE SOLO BOOST AT THAT VOLUME THOUGH!!! unless you wanna pull a marty mcfly ;) but keeping the master low and putting the solo boost volume knob at 9:00 brings back the beef

bear in mind, the pro mod is 120 watts because those KT 88s are 30 watts each...

also, don't souly judge the amp on bedroom performance alone....the thing shines most in a band setting with the volume put up generously =D
