I've heard clips of the JVM doing the heavier, harder stuff and it seems as though that's what people are using them for mostly. How well can it do the lower gain, plexi type of tones? I'm thinking of stuff like The Cult, Black Crowes, Jeff Beck, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, and earlier 70s rock. I have an ES-335 and a tele, and want to be able to use them just as much as the Les Paul and strat. I haven't heard too many people talk about this aspect of the JVM yet.

Thanks!

The Crunch channel will get you JCM800 tone. The JVM is one hell of a versitile amp. But I now own a Vintage Modern 2466. For the stuff you mentioned I would have to recommend the VM.

I've found an amazing amp for what you're looking for tone wise...shocking actually....Divided by 13 RSA23

https://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... p?t=283113

I got this one on the day I ordered a brand new one and found out it would be 8 + weeks for delivery....unreal tones, appx 97.23% more musical in tone than the JVM, and yes I owned a JVM. The beauty of this amp is that it lets the guitar shine. I'm using my Paul's, GMW, EJ Strat and Tele mutt with equal killer results.

Here's a Tele clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEG-8i0h ... ed&search=

Anyway, killer amp, another option for you, and it will fully rock as well.

Steve,

Killer tone, but I don't think it could handle the heavier stuff. I know the JVM can handle the higher gain, hard rock stuff, but my question was about the ability to handle the other end of the spectrum. This amp seems to be able to handle the lower gain tones, but not the high gain stuff.

Ive got a bunch of clips of the JVM doing more hard rock tones. Thats more what I play. I even have one with a tele somewhere.

Let me see what I can dig up.

Here are the ones I found so far

Crunch channel Yellow

OD 2 red with an Anderson tele and sc's

OD 1 yellow

I think the JVM is a killer amp. With that said, I haven't heard a plexi sound in it but I did here a Good jcm800 sound for sure.(along with the hot rodded tones) I think that you would be happy with one but I wouldn't rule out a good older JMP or Jcm800 with a boost or pedal in front.

On another note, this is something that I tell everyone, but the speakers used account for 50% of your tone, so don't overlook that fact!!

All the best!

Is this your playing Ralph? If so, it is awesome! I would consider this a great tone, though it is definitely heavier gain stuff. What speakers did you use for this? If I bought a JVM and I could get this tone out of it, I'd be a happy man.

That said, I have a line on a original 78 SLP. I'm trying to make up my mind.

Hey Mark! Thanks!

Yup that was me and if you dig that tone, You can absolutely get it with a JVM and a 4x12 loaded with the Re-issue g12h-30's!

The gain was on Half on the amber channel!!
The speakers have a huge role in that sound! There are many tones in that amp! The JVM is a flame thrower for sure

They are in there, but not where you think. Use the clean channel yellow or red mode and set the tones like you would on a plexi. bass low, pres, mid and treb high and crank the hell out of it! :)

Thanks Mark. I think it is a killer amp myself. Especially for gigging, very well thought out amp.

That would explain why I haven't heard them because my cranking an amp days are long gone epecially since I live in a condo :hys:

Thats not me - that's michael.e from TGP. Yes, those are Park PA speakers and I think he disconnected the tweeter...Michael's got some chops. He's a gear slut too

You've not heard the click channel on these...this amp will do 'teh metal' no worries...granted, not to the levels of high gain of what lurks in the JVM, at least without a pedal....but still, quality of tone in buckets....these are also NMV amps, so they tend to get loud, but not deafening at 23 watts.

The better D13 matchup for high gain is the JJN or the LDW 17/39

And yeah, Greazygeo's clips ALWAYS rock

will the jvm sound anywhere close to ralph's clip through a 1960 cab ? I could sleep well at night with the tone in that clip

I used an old 80's Marshall 1960 b cab but it won't sound like that clip unless the cab is loaded with h30's.
The 75's that come stock with the 1960's are way to scooped sounding

My 1960 cabinet is loaded with the 75s -- I gotta get rid of those. Did you use the plain reissue H30s or the Hertiage reissue H30s?

-Mark

I'd like to know if they were hertage or not also . I'm considering 2 of those in an X pattern with v30's in my 1960AV .George's & Ralphies clips rock !!
