So I went to see Kage's band last night and it was his first gig with the Axe-fx Ultra. We really did not have that much time to tweak the sounds, so we just programmed some basic patches and rolled with it.
All I can say is that even without us really spending time dialing in the sound, his live tone was killer at times and dare I say it cut better live then the boogie did when he used the boog rig. I only say that the tone was killer at times only because we would try a few things between sets and when we got it dialed in, it KILLED...Period.

The only snag I ran into is that at one time between a set I dialed in his lead sound WAY to hot, so when he stepped on the lead it took everyones faces off because it was so loud :hys:
We all just pissed out pants because the look on Kages face was priceless, although I don't think the band was as amuzed!! The audiance however loved it :D

There are a few things that we need to go over but all i can say is that the potential of this thing is incredible. To be able to pull off a LIVE show and not have this thing even dialed in 100% yet says volumes.

With that said, Im not 100% sold on the Carvin poweramp just yet. I think that Kage might have to run it bridged or I might have to Globally bump up his sound levels because he was definitely running out of headroom on the thing IMHO.

On another note, SteveVHT showed up and it was GREAT to see him and Tom King From Atomic Amps/Fractal Audio came all the way out from CT to Hang out!!

Tom Even came up and dialed in the sound levels on the AXe-fx. How great is that!
I can't even tell you how cool Tom is as a person and I had such a blast just hanging out with him talking shop and just Bs'ing in general! I am really looking forward hearing the new Atomic Amps Tube Powered speakers. Im already positive that they are going to kick me in the teeth!! Tom, YOU RULE and thanks for everything!!

and.......

Steve, if you are reading this, we need to get together more often brother! It was great hanging with you!

Well Im sure Kage will chime in when he wakes up from the FOG :hys:
Im sure that he didn't get home until the we hours of the morning :D

Also, D-man!! It was great seeing you to as well! ;) YOU ROCK and your Train ride story was classic!

Awesome!!! Funny enough, this weekend was my first Ultra show too, at least being amped... actually, first show in 3 years... Yeesh!

I'm seeing where you guys are coming from with the tube power amps though... I got a 8008 Valvestate to run with the Ultra to be A) light, and B) hopefully not go down as much. But, I definitely could have used a bit more volume here and there... I just don't like diming the power amp and still running the Ultra at about 3 o'clock.

Congrats guys, I'm glad y'all are digging the Axe-FXs. We'll all have to get in to patch trading sometime.

Peace.

It's cool to hear the A-F is doing well live and sounding good at loud volumes.

It's also cool to hear Stevevht is alive and well

They kick bootay. The two 1x12's sounded outstanding, and I'm not generally a fan of 1x12's.

Yo, The AxeFx KILLED, nothing else to say. Tone, feel, flexibility it was all there.... As Ralphie said, there are still some real minor details to work out (Lead Level vs Rhythm level etc) but It was everything that I could ask for and I think that the Carvin did a great job..

The lead level thing was pretty funny, If I wore a toupe, it would have been blown right off my head when hit the lead button, it actually made me duck LOL!!! and yeah, the band wasnt exactly pleased with that one.

Had a great time, had a great gig and it was awesome to see Ralphie , Tom and Steve, good times indeed!!!

oh yeah...

I LOVE MY AXEFX!!!!!!!!

Kage, congrats - I wish I lived closer to you guys, would love to get to see your band play.

I've had nothing but great luck with my axe live too, one thing that really helped at soundchecks and even live is the ability the axe has to set up two footswitches on your midi controller for +1 and -1 db on your patch - AND it saves automatically/instantly.

This is by far one of the coolest features for using an axe live - you can get your patches volume levels with each other perfect with this from the stage. With some of the bands I play in, we don't have a dedicated live soundman at every gig, so it's kinda every man for himself once the PA gets dialled in at soundcheck. This helps a lot.

If you're using the same patch for lead/rhythm, how much db are you adding? For some reason +4 db usually works great for me. I'm weird though, I just like my rhythm tone to get louder for leads.

I've done this with an expression pedal...the fs idea kills! Thanks.

on another note i had my first gig last night with kages old mark iv rackmount rig, the thing killed as well. its alot cleaner than my mark iv, head, lots more detail to the sound, maybe its the stock mesa tubes?

I went to a mini ampfest in Cleveland yesterday and Fredster brought his AxeFX. I must say, that sucker is an amazing piece of gear  I definately have seen the light and am thinking of ways now to get me one

Going to a gig with a new piece of gear

Having all your friends come out in support

stepping on the solo button and blasting out the crowd....PRICELESS :hys:

Awesome!

I have to tell ya, I dig my Axe more every time I use it.

Just updated to 6.00 firmware and that thump paramater is incredible.

I had a great time last night seeing Kage in action and meeting a few of the guys from the board. I agree with the consensus - Kage's Axe-Fx rig sounded killer! I suppose I am biased, though. :D

Kage - You sounded great. Thanks for dispatching "the Train" before I left. You definitely did it justice. Always great to hang with you.

Ralph - You're next. Looking forward to catching your outfit in Nov. Great hanging ... and for the punchy solo boosts.
