Kahlers have a smoother action and require less routing, they also give you more tweakability in that you can adjust string spacing.

That's the general concensus, which is better I'm not sure as I've only owned floyd style trems and never a kahler. I think in the end it's just down to personal opinion and preference.

Yeah, but the tuning instability after bends and the sustain pretty much made my mind up going on those vids. i tend to run floyds non recessed flat back against the body too, so tuning loss due to string breaks don't worry me

they are smooth.
the tuning is very easy
the routing hole is about 2 inches deep. total different from a floyd. both are dependable. i only own a kahler flyer . from 1985 and only changed springs once in 24yrs.

yeah reasons i wanted one.. but as i said the tuning problems after bending shown in that vid bother me. and the lack of sustain.

anyone got different experiences than shown?

IMO a recessed Kahler with a Floyd nut on a guitar with the correct neck angle should have none of the bending issues or problems going out of tune.

I think the Cantrell G&L Rampage is the only production guitar that is modded like this.

If you recess a older guitar with a Kahler you may run into problems unless you can get the neck angle corrected.

They made many revision of that Kahler locking nut and they all stink.

I like floyds better because of the fact that you can do things like warbles a lot easier.

This isn't the greatest example but Adreas did the tremelo warbling a lot between Beneath the Remains and Chaos Ad.

Well funnily enough, the guitar i want built is kinda influenced in a cantrell direction, at least the parts of his sound i like and what i want in a guitar. which is why i was looking at Kahler, he's essentially a bluesy player with lots of tasty bending, and from the video's there, the bending issue isn't something i could live with.

can you explain what you mean with the neck angle, nut and recess etc etc?

I replaced my Kahler on my 89 charvel/Jackson with a new hybrid kahler that has a Allen bolt that threads into the trem and makes it a solid bridge. It's great for alternating tuning or like me I rarely use it. I do prefer the trem on a fender or prs. I had a luv/hate relationship with my Floyd on my rg550 and rg570, there is a tremsetter for the Floyd that I would use if I got another ibanez with a Floyd. My personal experiance but I play more David Gilmour, SRV, jazz, blues style.

Same as with a recessed or non recessed Floyd, one needs to have either a flat neck or angled. Cantrell had to have his neck pocket modified for the neck angle to change to accomodate the recess. If you have a neck thru guitar you cant change the Kahler from non recessed to recessed because then the strings will be out of spec.

Always use a Floyd nut.
