I keep hurting the tendon in the thumb of my fretting hand, sucks because I can't play guitar comfortably for a few days until the pain goes away.
It happened a few days ago from just taking frozen pizza out of the freezer and then closing the freezer...all of a sudden...ouch!!

Anyone else have a problem with pain for silly reasons in your fingers/hand?

Cool, thanks for the info. I tried the test and that's not it. It's on the inside bottom part of my thumb (that rests on the back of the neck)

I'll look for my info on it.

I get this pain on the outside of my left index finger especially when soloing in the lower registers. I tend to 3 finger it more than 4 fingers and I think that may have alot to do with it. My hands are pretty beat up from years of martial arts and I have to run them under hot water for 5-10 min before playing just for them to behave... getting old sucks

I have it bad.....Best way to explain it is...when playing "Lay it down" or anything with that kind of stretch...hurt's like hell.

My left hand is screwed. Some days I can play ok, others my hand is so tight I can't play worth shit. No one can tell what is wrong with my hand (MRIs, etc. - nothing), but it gets worse every year and the times I can play well are fewer. The best guess drs can make is that the operation I had in '85 to remove a large ganglion cyst from my wrist has created scar tissue that is affecting my dexterity. Still no idea what to do about it... Tried months of therapy, nothing... The bummer is that the longer in a session I play (when the hand is tight and not working), the worse my playing gets. Used to be, once I warmed up, I could rip, but those days happen fairly infrequently now... When I feel good, I always try to record something because I never know when I'm going to be able to play as well again...

I also seem to have some carpal tunnel - when I try to practice in an organized and regular cadence I get numbness and tingling in the hand (and my heart is fine, believe me)...

Not much I can do... I play with joy when it feels good, struggle through it sometimes when it feels bad, or just put it down and see how it feels the next day.

Yeah... I know... CSB... Mojo sent...

My case exactly....there are days when..I just can't play for shit. The idea's are there in my head but....get lost in translation from there to my hand. Been going on for quite a few years now...one day I can rip...the next...nuthin. Seems to be worse when I'm tired too.....just really can't play....to any usual skill level anyways.

I just have a strained pain feeling in my thumb once every few months...if I relax it for a few days it goes away.

Damn...mojo sent to you guys. Sounds like you have it worse than me. Seriously that's shitty.

I have trigger finger on my left thumb. The tendon is inflamed and causes my finger to get stuck in either bend or straight position. Had a cortisone shot and it worked well. Thank God. I wear a sleeve on it when I sleep. Like an ace bandage for your finger. the sleeve helps a lot.

Have you had the hand looked at? No one can seem to find anything (even the carpal tunnel is not proven) wrong with mine...

If you have... well... I guess we can cry together... ;)

It just sucks to not be able to play as well as I used to most of the time...

It really does suck when you love to play as much as I do and you wait all day through work to get home and pick it up and plug in and within seconds you realize you might as well just put it away...

This crap with my hand that has been going on for years now is part of the reason I am trying to build an amp business. I just want to be around it, even if I can't play... and based on what I see, that day is gonna come...

Good luck to you.
I know a local keyboard player that is really good, he's a producer too. He played the keys and did a lot of the arrangements on the first few Kim Mitchell albums (Go For A Soda, All We Are, Patio Lanterns....) he's one of my heroes as I'm a big fan of those albums. His left (bass note) hand's fingers started to move less and less, to the point now that it's just a club and he can only play basically one note at a time with that hand. Pretty shitty.

Steve,
That totally sucks. I am so sorry. Sorry for me as well as I love hearing you play.
I think that even on your worst day you can outplay most people. Just don't be so hard on yourself.

I do know though, that pain makes playing hard for sure. I have a slight bit of arthritis in my left hand index fingers middle joint now. Sometimes it wants to 'stick' while playing. It doesn't really 'hurt' but it is uncomfortable and my practicing Hapkido now isn't helping matters any either I suppose.

Mojo and prayers to ya bro!

I could not play for 2 years
doctors did everything except surgery and nothing worked
I have tendinitis
what did work is chiropractic
Gordon Chiropractic (universal city, ca) (the guy that helped billy sheehan and chick corea)
Because of him, I can play, no I can't practice legato all day, but I can pretty much do anything I want
(stretch first)

Arlo Gordin, right? When was the last time you saw him? I tried to find the dude and it seems he skipped the country with a bunch of money from some fraud thing...

Appreciate the thoughts, fellers, but I've accepted the situation... I had to... I was driving my wife crazy whining about it and going to different drs all the time with no resolution...

Steve

yes that's him
he was amazing
I saw him for a year at least back in 98 or 99
the only thing that worked for me
I also tried acupuncture and got nothing

hope he's still there....near baked potato
I always imagined going back...if my wife ever gets rich
