Very Cool Brother!!

One question, after you profile the amp, did you take that profile and record direct?
...and also with you, do you profile with a mic into the Kemper or was that a line in from the Hotplate?

Sounded really good!

Man we would have killed for this type of gear back in the late 80's when we were playing bars and chasing our heroes guitar tones. Everyone would have had the brown sound or the Whitesnake '87 tone.

You know what's cool about it...it sounds like a real amp mic'ed up live with a '57 or whatever. Unlike the Axe, 11R and other modellers that by default just have a more polished tone to them. Sometimes that's what you want but sometimes it's not. Seems to me you can polish it later if you want but you can't "un-polish" the tone of the Axe.

Here's a question...can you profile amps and effects separately and then combine them in a way that behaves like the real gear? Or are you supposed to profile the whole chain each time? Like if you wanted to add a pedal in front of the Marshall for example....

Totally incredible.
Does the amp settings make a difference? i.e. Did you need to dime your Super Lead?

I didn't dime it, but I jumpered the channels and had each around half to 3/4 up. I think I had more volume on the bright side. All the EQ on the amp was dimed. I used a Hotplate set at -8db and it was still loud as fuck!

How much does player style, pick attack, technique, affect the profiling. Does it profile the players touch, picking, etc.? How does that translate when you play something completely different with that particular sim?

99% of the profiling is the Kemper sending test tones through the amp. The only playing you really do is when you 'refine' it - you chop some chords through it, and it measures something.

I was playing around with a Jeff Beck backing track with the same tone and it sounded ok but was a hair thin. Of course, I could add more low end or mids to it, but do that much and it starts to lose the 'VH' character. You can also add or take away gain from the profiles, add more sag, etc. It's pretty cool how you can take your amp's tone and then go further with it.

Thanks man! Yup, took that profile and plugged the Kemper right into my recorder. I did add reverb in reaper to it, but didn't touch the EQ or compress it or anything. Just a smack of 'verb.

I used an SM57 on my '72 marshall cab. You can use a line in, but then you have to pair it with a cabinet sim that's already in the Kemper. I wanted to get the 'whole sound' of my amp and cab.

I believe you have to profile the entire chain to add an effect - but they mention you can't use time based or compression effects - I think you can just mainly do a booster, but they mention a tube screamer won't work for profiling. (there are several boost pedal effects to choose from though.)

You can profile an amp with a cab and then seperate them though, or just profile an amp with a line out and combine it with a cab that's already in the kemper.

What do you use for monitors with the Kemper? My Kemper came in and I was using some Alesis M1 Active's I have and it sounded pretty amazing. Accept the Alesis monitors are a little boomy to me. I only played with the presets on it but I'm loading it up from the forum tonight.

I just spoke to DonBarzini. He got the Kemper and agrees with everything Pete said and he told me to tell Pete to email him his profile :D
We are talking amp profile this time and not a nude picture profile :hys:

Knowing donbarzini, he wants both

QSC HPR1212i when I was profiling and cranking it loud, when I was recording it sounded really nice through my KRK rokit8s and the 10s sub.

Damn Barzini too huh??

So how is the feel??

I don't think it's 100%, but it's a lot better IMHO than the axe fx standard is. Not sure about the II.

its basically a sampler for guitar amps. Keyboards have been using this similar technology for over 20 years. Finally someone made it adaptable for guitarists. Most guitarists do not like technological changes (caveman attitudes) its just recently we started to accept midi in our amps, well keyboards been using midi for well over 20 years.

Sounds pretty good but to be honest TO ME this clip doesn't sound that much better than any other good clips from other modelers.

I have heard some other clips though that really impressed me so I still plan on trying one out.

Sounds great Pete! Can't wait to hear what this thing can do over time.

Well....I'm listening on shitty laptop speakers, but it sounds like a Marshall to me. Really impressive

Can't wait to try one of these :D

Can you profile a recording? Like say those bare VH or Randy tracks?
