Kemper or Two Notes CAB/Preamp

Looking for an ampless solution for live applications in a corporate cover band. Drummer uses a top of the line Roland kit and their previous guys all ran direct. Bringing in the Quick Rod of course raised done eyebrows even though they love the tone.

I'm looking at either a Kemper which I'd love but also am thinking I could save a good bit and just add the Two Notes and either my AMT preamps (P1-R1) or get something like the Bogner Red.

Thoughts?

i suggest a third option. get the two notes torpedo live and use your quick rod.

Thought of that as well. I guess I should caveat that I sort of like the idea of an easier load in by using one of the direct options as well.

But, you're willing to lug your QR to get the tone of your QR...? The Live lets you do just that (minus the cab).

I have actually been considering the same thing lately.

Well I certainly didn't think of that. It did not occur to me to bring the head only. Now can I bring the cab for some stage sound for me and also run the torpedo through the board? I assume the answer is yes.

The one thing that worries me in all scenarios is only hearing myself through monitors but assume you get used to it.

This is what I do regularly. I just bring my pedalboard, Two-Notes live and my Satch head. No cab needed, provided there is some monitoring available.

:)

We require a good monitor setup in our rider due to the electronic drums. Have monitors been sufficient? Never done a gig with no cab before. I know I'll lose a ton of low end.

When you use the Head with the different Cab IRs in the Two Notes Live-is the versatility of Tones almost
like a Modeler ?

I'm a complete hack, but for what it's worth, I have the Kemper, the CAB, and the AMT pedals you mention. The Kemper is great, but the AMT/CAB combo is every bit as satisfying, at least when it comes to listening through studio monitors.

Kemper if you have amps that you are not in love with.

Two Notes Live if you have amps you are in love with.

Two Notes CAB/Pedal setup if you're looking for a fantastically simple rig.

how close does the Live get to a real cab?

In which way? Tone wise it can nail it. But unless you invest in some pro wedges it won't be pushing the same amount of air.

I run my wedge(s) behind me so it was just like a cab, but better - behind me, but shooting right up at me. I have very good wedges that will not fart out at volumes beyond what most 4x12s can handle. The audio dispersion on stage is better. Honestly, most artist hear their guitars through wedges or ear monitors on big stages anyway, it really isn't anything new.

For what you are doing I think you will love the LIVE. And using the house PA you can easily tweak a little eq on the amp to account for different PAs.

The two notes speaker sims sound great but one more solution would be use your head and the rivera rock crusher recording. It has a speaker sim output you can set to sound like different speaker/mic options and use it as a full load box or as an attenuator at the same time. It's a little less flexible over the two notes but also less expensive.

I've had no issues with monitors. They all tend to sound a bit different but in the end, I don't have an issue with the tones I am getting.

:)

I love my Kemper. Love. It.

However, since receiving my Torpedo Live, I only use the Kemper to mess around and record DIs. Thats it. The Torpedo Live is incredible. And absolutely KILLER for bass guitar tones as well.

Cool man. I'm about ready to make the plunge. What wedges do you like? Would something like the standard JBL monitors that you see on a lot of stages be a good choice?

I use JBLs. I hear the CLRs are great too.
