TL;DR New Kemper owner here and have 2 general questions.

1) How to get the profiles at home to sound like the profiles I heard on youtube.
2) Best method of getting what you hear at home/band rehearsal to sound the same live/FOH

The long version:

Between choosing a profile at home and then going to FOH at a show. What methods are you using for best accuracy?

FRFR? Studio Monitors? Headphones? In Ear system?

Not sure what do to here and trying to learn the unit. I have posted this all over so you may have seen the same questions before. Just trying to get as many opinions as I can.

Also, I dislike how every profile sounds the same using the Kemper poweramp and my 4x12. Defeats the purpose for me so what is your best method of getting that killer profile on Youtube to sound the same at band rehearsal or at home?

Not answering your question but good Direct Amp profiles can sound amazingly the same as the amp profiled through the Powerhead and the same cabinet used when profiling.

Well hey at least it is something

I need to reset the Kemper I am told and will do so tonight. Then will check out some DI profiles. There is probably a 1% chance anyone has used my cab to profile an amp so that unfortunately is not going to ever match but I do use all V30 so there is that.

That's irrelevant when it comes to Direct Profiles, man.

Seeing as you're rockin' your 4x12, you're "limited" to Direct or Merged (with Cab module bypassed) Profiles, 'cause Studio Profiles ("normal" ones) are gonna superimpose additional cabs over your one, and in most cases that's gonna sound weird.

I used a Mesa 4x12 with Pure Cab turned off and it sounded pretty good. However I swapped over to an Electro-Voice EKX12P and EKX12 (when I had a power head). It is seriously night and day difference between a 4x12 and a really good PA/FRFR Speaker. I can't believe I went years without getting one. I sat in a room with a Kemper & Helix and tried out the EKX12P, A Mission Engineering Gemini 2, Line 6 Power Cab and I think a Headrush FRFR. With the Kemper to my ears the EKX12P sounded the best, the Mission Engineering wasn't that great and the rest were absolute trash. I've tried a bunch of other inexpensive "FRFR" Cab/PAs and they suck. If you get one, make sure to get one with a real wooden enclosure like the EKX12P, the ones with plastic enclosures just sound terrible at high volumes.

I can dial in a tone on my monitors or headphones late at night and when I plug into my speaker it'll sound 95% the same. I bought a bunch of SinMix profiles a while back and they sounded decent through my Mesa 4x12, not the same as youtube clips, but as soon as I got my PA/FRFR it sounds just like the stuff I hear on youtube. Don't waste your time with 4x12s anymore :D

Sweet, guess I know what I need to do but will that 112 keep up volume wise in a band mix at practice unmiked with another guitarist having a 4x12 and tube amp?

OT question about the Cab sims. Using my 4x12 keep in mind. I have turned the cab off and on by pressing the Cabinet button on the front panel. I have also turned the Pure Cab on and off. To my dismay there was no difference whatsoever.

Is there another cab parameter inside that I am missing?

I do intend on doing a factory reset tonight as I got it used.

Shit man....I forgot you were going to use this live.

All I ever did using the Kemper was record thru my Apogee....I used headphones most of the time and monitors the rest. Couldn't figure out why we were hearing different things on those profiles.

Here's hoping these guys can help you out.

Could it be that it's on for the monitor out? I think this is a parameter in the output module; have a look for it (Output button).

If it's been on the whole time, that'd 'splain it. :D

I think that was off too but ill double check.

Ordered the EV btw...Fuck it, if I'm gonna do it I need to do it right. I'm in a bit more $$$ than I wanted to be with the Kemper but if I can learn the unit and if it does what I think it can it should be worth it.

Not too late to try / order a Yamaha FRFR unit? They're available in many cone sizes and get a lot o' love over at the Kemper forum.

They put out some serious SPL's too.

I mean, i could cancel the EV order but are Yamaha that much better? Its gonna cost more. What are SLP?

Other than price, what's the diff in the EV zlx and the EV ekx? Is it the cabinet construction, or mote to it...

Sound Pressure Level; it's what the acoustic dB measurement refers to - dB SPL.

Peeps say, as I did, "... put out some / high SPL's..."

IIRC they sound more-natural. Also, I'd tend to trust Yamaha for its build quality / robustness more than EV.

Are you playing out locally? I have some shows coming up in April and May. I tried the modeling route but went back to amps real fast.

Yeah, not touring. Maybe the out of town weekend gig here and there.

I just wanted to try it out and figured having almost any amp at my disposal was better than gassing for them all and not being able to buy.
