I've been researching the Kemper for a month or so. I really like what I'm hearing. Can anybody tell me if it sounds as good when using it through a power amp like a [VHT 2/50/2] and into a 4x12 cab? Also, I keep reading about the profile packages, particularly [LasseLammett] I think I spelled it right. Where do you find those bundles? Because on Kempers profile sharing I can't find some of his particular profiles. This is why I've hesitated buying one. The whole thing is a little confusing to me. Thanks

It'll rock through that VHT>4x12
You'll need to disable the cab sims, so...you obviously won't get the diversity of tones such as an open back Fender to a raging 4x12, but if you like you're set up, it's gold.
The Lasse profiles are great, I think they are on the Kemper release page from late 2013 (?)
It's easy enough, I can send you a link if you need it

I absolutely LOVE my Kemper… It is, to me, the ultimate direct recording tool and the ability to profile my own amps and buy incredible profiles from The Amp Factory gives me an arsenal of tones….

That said, in the room, with a 4x12 cab, to ME, nothing comes close to the real amps including the Kemper.

If I was going to play live with the Kemper at some small bar space, it'd be direct to FOH with a set of in ears for monitoring… I think it would sound best that way...

If I was going to play live and the stage and room were big (like the places I played in the 80s), I'd roll in 3 4x12s and my W/D/W setup…

Others may feel differently, of course… the only way for you to know for sure is to get one and dig in...

Thanks for the info guys. I'm just a hobby player. I just sometimes like to crank the hell out of an amp to know I'm still alive. LOL. The Lasse/Kemper link would be awesome to have. Thanks Again, Kevin

I have one, haven't tried profiling yet

My plan is to profile a loaded down head
then use a 1x12 cab w/ small power amp (matrix module)

In theory, it will sound exactly like your head through the same cab
so you CAN get in the room identical feel.....

Don't rush into it Mixo.... I know you've only had the Kemper for about a year.

How many roadies do you have these days?

In my imagination or in real life?

I went the 4x12 route when I first got my powered Kemper and got a good tone but since picked up an Atomic CLR and the tone is outstanding.

I have only one thing to add here. Yes the VHT will knock your face off and sounds pretty much dead on to a tube amp(duh it is tubes). It will color the tones a bit. If you want the kemper to compete with a tube amp you need a lot of wattage and a large sub. Im taking 600+ RMS clean wattage along with another 300+ Watts for the sub. Even then it will have a hard time against a super loud Marshall in some cases. Also remember you will need at least 4 speakers at at least 10" or greater to give you the air you are used to feeling. That can come from studio monitors or whatever but you still need it.

I'd think you're more likely to get the most out of it with a FRFR speaker of some sort. I've got an extra Atomic Reactor 112 for cheap if you go that route. That way you use the cab sims as well.

I myself use a pair of Yahmaha powered monitors with a subwoofer. It sounds awesome for at home playing.

Don't think you HAVE to purchase a profile pack from someone. There's a ton of great free ones shared on the exchange and the Kemper is so easy to tweak to get something sounding to more your liking.

The Kemper lacks with a poweramp/cab setup IMO and the reason I let mine go...

...I mean don't get me wrong... it lacks in the way the Axe also doesn't sound EXACTLY like an amp in the room with a power amp/cab setup...

But does it sound great? Sure... but the Kemper, in my opinion, is by far the BEST direct guitar box out there... you really need to take advantage of the FULL profiles, so I would probably go the FRFR route if I needed large volume on stage... a Kemper direct to FOH or straight into your DAW through good monitors is flat out jaw dropping...

...last thing to note is apparently there are profiles now that are just of the preamp and designed to be used with a power amp and cab, but those weren't around when I owned mine so I can't comment on them... there are plenty of people using the power rack version with tons of success and are super happy... maybe I should give it another go... loving my current setup now though...

For live use to get all of those great tones with fx in one box is a no brainier.

I've had one now for a few months and for me, it's one the best pieces of gear I've ever had. I'm not going to get into the whole Profiling vs. Real Amp debate. It's ridiculous. I run mine into an Electro Harmonix 22 Caliber for amplification and from there, into a Bogner Uberkab. Sounds great. I was never happy with the Axe through headphones, direct to DAW or through my studio monitors. The Kemper sounds great to me through all of those devices.

If you get one, you can download the Rig Manager software which allows you to connect directly to the Rig Exchange and preview profiles before loading them to the profiler. You can search for "Mesa", or "Lasse" for example and find what you need. Plus, you can store thousands of the profiles on your computer instead of piling them up on the Kemper.

Disregard any response in this thread by anyone who argues "I'll never replace my real amps with a Kemper". That's fine. No one says you have to. You can in fact own a Kemper, and still choose to go blow $4000 on another Marshall clone whenever you want.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. I think I'm just going to keep searching for a tube amp that can do what I'm looking for. Yeah, gonna be hard since I want something to perform like a Larry Dino939. Any suggestions on that?

I have a powered rack and run mine through a Marshall 1960 AX with greenbacks. I love everything I get out of it. I didn't like the powered rack with v30s. I can't get used to FRFR at this point and the cost for getting a passive unit up here was cost prohibitive for me. I run it through my studio monitors at home for some FRFR if needed.
