Made a vid this morning using my iPhone 6+ showing our boy "Crunchtime's" Fryette Power Station pushing the Kemper and my Splawn 2x12.

Holy fuck balls does it feel like the actual amp!

Used both merged and studio profiles and both sound tits! Guitar wa the PRS SC245 with 57/08 humbuckers. This Fryette really adds that low end chunk. The little dip switches add the slightest bit of sweetness in the room but they are not super drastic changes. Just tweaks the feelz a little bit.

I need to do an unbiased vid showing both power amps side-by-side. Ultimately the Stealth is still pretty sweet but that'll be the real test on whether or not one is better for my needs than the other.

Anywho, here's the vid:

The last part is the Splawn low gain profiles goosed with the Black Arts Toneworks "Witch Burner". One of my favorites actually.

18 is 9999999999999! lol I think that was the lyric.

Sounds bad ass and very much like the real amp. So are we seeing here that the poweramp is the key? A nice tube power amp and cab. I would love to hear something like the bogner pedals or other preamp pedals through that Fryette.

Way to recognize the King! LOL!

I would say, "yes" the power amp makes a huge difference.

Here's the thing, Kemper states that a tube power amp is now coloring the profile and I am sure that is the case, but to ME, this thing went from stellar to balls-out-insane just swapping the power amp from solid state to tube.

I really need to do a back-to-back for honest eval but this Power Station is great. The load box feature makes it well worth the $599.

Sounds great! Would love to hear how the profiles sound with the Power Station into your studio monitors as well!

Hmmm...

My studio monitors are powered. Not sure if there is a way to bypass their internal power but I'll look into it.

Yeah I forgot they were probably powered...........do you get anywhere close to that sound just playing the profiles in the normal fashion thru your powered monitors?

Actually it's pretty close. The bottom end isn't quite there obviously since the 12" Creambacks are just voiced very differently BUT what I will do is when I make the comparison vid this week between the ISP Stealth and Power Station is try and get the stdio monitors up there volume-wise so you can hear all 3.

Cool man! The Kemper is one of the best gear purchases I have ever made.

Well I've been meaning to try this for a while and so after reading this thread I gave it a whirl. I have to admit that it really sounds great. The PS made the Kemper feel that much more real amp like and that's exactly what it needed.

That sounds really great. However, are you using the Amp In or Line In? I would think you want the Line In. That's what I use when hooking up the Power Station to a preamp.

And if that is the case, the little "Edge/Brite/Flat" & "Deep/Warm/Flat" toggles are not used. They are only engaged when using the "Amp In" jack and using the Power Station as an attenuator.

Hey right on!!! It's awesome right???

I'd love to hear a A/B/C with Stealth/PS/Splawn amp

Cause right there, that to me sounds like the real amp but at a way more civil DB level.
Especially through the cab, that sounds fucking great! That 3rd profile is muy macho

Muy Macho indeed ese!

To the post above, I am using the line in so maybe that subtle difference is my mind playing tricks on me! LOL!

Should I try the "Amp In"?

You want the Line In input when using it as a power amp. Here is a quote from the manual on the tiny toggles on the front:

NOTE: These switches only operate when your load amplifier’s speaker output is connected to
the Power Station Amp In jack.

I had a Kemper for a while ran it with a Carvin TS-100 power amp into a couple Marshall cabs and it was AWESOME!! I know a lot of people prefer to use their modeling units with full range setups, but to me, the best way to utilize these units live is with a decent TUBE power amp and regular guitar cabs. Do they work well direct to console - you bet. If you are trying to move away from the spin-crushing weight and hassle of gigging with a huge amp rig - they work very well. But if you really want to utilize them as the "ultimate preamp" - in my opinion, this is the best way to run them. The TS-100 is a tube amp, but has a nice flat response that is known to not impart very much "color" to your tone. I could even run the Kemper WITH the amp tone stack engaged and just bypass the cab sim.

I A/B'd it with several of my Marshal half-stacks and it was so similar to the real thing that I could barely hear or feel the difference. My other guitarist in the band I was in had no idea which was which when I made him "blind taste test" my setup.

I ran an AxFx Ultra the same way before I got the Kemper and in my opinion the Kemper was much better. I'd be interested to try an AxeFx II in the same manner.....maybe someday.
