Killer cheap metal amps you can STILL get...cheap.

I'll start...Peavey Supreme 160. Throw a BBE Sonic Maximizer in the loop and this thing is metal beast for stuff like Pantera, or whatever metal you want that tight sound for. Really good, loud PV clean tones and a decent reverb. A lot of onboard EQ options. I played one for like 3 years when I was young and it can keep up with any band...There is one for sale a street over for $100, I might buy it..

Another one..Peavey XXL. It doesn't roar quite like the XXX but still, it can get some badass rock/metal tones on the dirt cheap. I see these going $150-200 still.

i have one of these, dont think ive ever recorded it which ill have to do soon.

the Fender metalhead is killer that no one ever played

I picked up a VTM a little while ago and, it is a fantastic Amplifier,
It is easily in the same league as other popular Amplifiers here on RT that are 2 to 3 times the price tag.
If this thing was a discontinued Marshall, it would be commanding three times the money.

Definitely grab that Supreme. It's a great death metal amp. I've got a pretty good collection of Peavey heads at this point, all of which are great for different types of metal. Luckily acquired before the current price hikes:
  • VTM 60 and 120
  • 6505, 6505+, 6534+
  • XXX and JSX
  • Supreme 160, XXL, and Transtube Supreme
Would love to get a Butcher and an Ultra Plus.

Also, I have and recommend the Marshall Valvestate 8100 and 8200, both of which are pretty gnarly. They're known mostly for being used by Death and Prong. The earlier solid state Marshalls like the Lead 20, Master Lead Reverb, and MOSFET Lead 100 can do some classic metal and thrash with a boost, but they won't get too modern. All of these are also getting noticed (probably thanks to posts like this), and prices are going up.

This is a subject that's always been super interesting to me. Looking forward to hearing other suggestions. What about amps that are overlooked because they don't sound great, but can be easily modded into beasts? Like the Windsor previously posted.
