I don't mind his biker look and all and like most of the BLS stuff, but his playing was much better back in the day and maybe it is me, but it appears stale now. Like same ole shit different day!!!

It's his over use of chorus that ruins that live at Budokan DVD for me. Great performance by the entire band and Ozzy but the guitar sound drives me nuts.

He really could've lead a major kick ass Southern rock/blues, metalized movement but just de-volved into what BLS is now. Sometimes I can't watch his older videos around Pride and Glory and early BLS days because he was so on fire and even sung well (as in not like a bad Ozzy impersonator). Now he's just a self parody, stuck in a time loop.

That was FUN!! Pure ROCK STAR there. He was just killer in the P&G era.

I agree though - when his voice changed into the pseudo-Ozzy thing, I think after the 1919 album, I started losing interest. Loved the Book of Shadows cd too.

I'm listening to the 1993 "Live & Loud - No More Tours" cd... While I get the nostalgia thing and how much better things were "back in the day", he used as much chorus then as you hear on the Budokan cd. I think it has more to do with how things are recorded now vs then that the chorus may seem more prevalent, although his newer stuff has a more "swirly" sound to it. I do agree in that regard.

I miss the Zakk of that era. I actually saw him on that run of "clinics" he did. He basically just jammed and drank a bunch of PBR. I should've stuck around to meet him since he was one of my favorites around that time. I don't think I knew about the upcoming P&G band and was kinda confused, but it was cool either way.

P&G was not what I expected from him at the time it came out ('94), and I won't lie...I was disappointed then, but I have a HUGE appreciation for it now. Even more so with "Book of Shadows".

I'd agree. "Stronger Than Death" cd absolutely RIPPED. I've never heard a guitar tone like that!! That was about the last cd where he had any southern twang (barely) Allman Bro-ish thing going on. After that...well...
