ESP did not make the LTD expensive! The price is set by Kirk from the KVH store that includes the package he is doing with the guitar. Why are people confused by this?
Just for the record, I'm not a fan of the guitar or the horror themed guitars he does in general. I've owned a ESP KH2 vintage and the special edition and they were amazing guitars.

Why do you think Kirk set the price of the guitar? Him and James have had many signatures (several limited in numbers) and I doubt James and Kirk had much at all to do with the overall pricing. I'm sure some $$ has been added to the price for the extras but just because it's only for sale at the KVH store doesn't mean that Kirk set the pricetag of the guitar. It's a $700-$800 guitar with a graphic. I'm sure Kirk approached ESP with his idea and ESP had a lot to do with the pricing of the guitar. Just my opinion.

Every signature James and Kirk have had have been sold through ESP dealers. These 13 are being sold by Kirk. Only what people are willing to pay above the $700 to $800 for the guitar which it would most likely be similar to his ltd white zombie guitar is the price point in question. They sold in about less than 24 hours so some people must be fine with that. Who knows what input ESP had but I'm sure Kirk could probably do whatever he wants for the most part.
Im sure a lot of people would pay an extra $1500 on a sub $1k guitar to have a limited edition package like this from one their guitar heroes if they offered it. People may not like Kirk or this guitar but for the people that are fans of Kirk and these old classic horror themed guitars it's a a rare opportunity.

I'm usually a Kirk fan but that ad shouldn't have been put out. There was quite a few clams (1:16). Must have been one take and figured he wasn't going to do another to sell 13 guitars.

I think the graphic is pretty terrible IMHO. I mean, the graphic is basically letters that follow a design that doesn't match the shape of the guitar at all. It would have made more sense to put the design on a guitar with a rounded profile...but it would still just be letters. Maybe it's how one of the original movie posters looked, IDK, but it looks very uninspired.

As far as the playing goes...it's pretty cool that there's a video to market the guitar. Not impressed by the lead he played, but at least it's more than a random unison bend and that's it.

I wonder why they made such an expensive LTD instead of an ESP. At that price, that's a tough decision to make. I wonder if Kirk was against having "E-II" on the headstock?

Uhhhhhh...cuz it says LTD on the headstock and not KDKH on the headstock.

I'm not going to pretend or speculate on what the conversations were that went into determining the price of the guitar. Either way, one entity determined the price and the other approved it. You pick whichever you want. Kirk didn't make the guitar, LTD did.

For guys into the horror movie poster realm, this is something cool for them to collect. I think it's a good idea to keep the production limited, but I feel bad for them having to pony up that much money to get it. The paintjob isn't the selling point (because there are some very talented people...maybe even in this very thread...that are capable of pulling off the paintjob), the case candy is what makes it collectable.

Well 13 people liked it. Says sold out. :D

Well, I suspect that there are at least 13 brainless hardcore fanboys of Kirk around. Would be interesting to know how many are left. What would happen if he signed 50 or so guitars of this model...

The point I'm trying to make is that ESP is not releasing this guitar alone for $2400. It's a package deal that Kirk is offering. Kirk is doing this under his own advertising and from his own store. Regardless who has a say in it, it's the package that is the high price. The guitar alone would be normal LTD price one could only assume. You even said yourself the case candy is what makes it collectable.
It's a package deal made affordable to some people that includes a limited edition 13 only LTD.

I owned the 3 of the KH2'S and Ouija in the past. Great guitars for sure.
My all time favorite is the Mummy though. :D

This one I dont really care for though. No biggie. Makes the world go around.

Not just other guitarists, but apparently vampires, spiders, and rats can't stand the sound of Kirk Hammett's lead playing either. :D

I bought them all as an investment.

That's what Kirk did, too. He bought them at $799, and just sold them to you for $2400 with a bobble head. Now you can add a pic of your old avatar and sell them for $3600.
