I had Dave mod my Metropoulos '68 with the works (HB, HBE, C45, Fat, Sat). The amount of gain voicings is amazing. It's like having at least 6 high gain amps.

Anyway, I just want to say that the classic Plexi sounds are awesome too. If you dial up the master first and then use the gain as the volume you can basically mimic a non-master plexi where the gain comes on quicker. Jimi, Cream, Free it's all there. This amp does a lot more than just high gain very well.

I can't tear myself away from the Brown Eye input with the C45 switch engaged

Oh yeah man, I have a Marsha 100 watter with the options you have plus a modern switch,
footswitchable gain/master and loop.
Love it all.
Friedman's ahead of the pack with this one.
Phenominal tone and feel without sounding modded, just bad ass.
This one' s going with me to the grave.

Lets say your plugged into the HBE with the gain 1/2-3/4. What changes tonally when you flip the modern switch on?

Well, currently when I use the modern switch I use the fat and saturation, gain maxed in the Brown Eye
and get a down right BRUTAL, GRINDING tone.

With the Hairy Brown, I use the fat, modern and satch with the gain at noon and get a fatter bottom end with
a PISSED OFF, IN YOUR FACE metal tone.

The Modern switch to my ears doesn't add gain but really tightens things up
as well as makes the attack quicker and immediate.
The switch gives the amp the killer brutal Marshall GRUNT also.

I can only say this for the Marsha, I've never played a Mod.

What's astonishing about the Marsha is the tone and feel.
Absolutely NO FIZZ at note decay and the amp will sing.
The EQ holds many useful tones and with the guitar pot its a plenty.

I plan to do a insightful review after I have the amp a few more weeks
and play it with different cabs.

Any chance you could do some clips? I'm especially interested in the versatility, from like classic zep breakup to 80s metal/iron maiden, and then curious if it can do more modern metal in flames/arch enemy type stuff with these modern/saturation switches. It'd be nice to have more than like 2 youtube vids and 2 mp3s floating around of this thing!

Classic Zep to some 80's metal/ Maiden, it can do.
Its not as saturated heavy as say a Twin Jet.
Definately can hit Metallica MOP.
