Kix show. Rigs and pics.

Was an excellent show. The 94+ degree heat was tough on everyone though. Our singer suffered from dehydration and very low bp and needed to go to a local hospital for fluids and observation.

Bob Paré was using all Gibson guitars, mostly LP’s but did play a Bigsby equipped SG on a few songs. Silver jubilee and a fawn tolex 2204 JMP blended. Cabinet was a Marshall 100th. Just a few pedals.

Brian Forsythe was using one 50 watt JMP and had another as a backup. Mostly used the tele all night but grabbed a strat on Cold Shower. Had a LP with p90’s that sounded amazing but only used it on Bow My Fuse. Cabinet was a run of the mill 1960A but not sure if the speakers were original. Tube screamer and a Corona mini.

Hung out with Bob and Jimmy after the show for a while. Super cool guys. The rest of the band headed out immediately afterwards. Heat was brutal, especially this early in the year.

So, which rig did you end up taking with you ?
I took the Friedman Smallbox and a 4x12 with a large pedalboard. The entire time I wished I took the Amplifire. Gig was outside on a driving range that they watered the hell out of in the morning ( automatic sprinklers ) and we had to stack everything stage right in the wet grass. Would have been nice to have less valuable gear there and not worried about it. Not a word was said about my gear, my tone, or my playing. To be quite honest I was expecting that. People at a show don’t give a shit about what gear you play.

Glad you took your big boy, but I’m sure many of us here understand how you feel. Wet grass not cool.
When I was gigging, we didn’t have all the options available to players now. I don’t even know how all this new gear works or sounds.
I do have vivid memories of the frantic setups and tear downs when we’d play shows with 2-3 other bands or a battle of the bands. I hated that feeling.

I totally get this. I did a gig last Weds (sort of). I knew it was going to rain all night and it was outside. They would not cancel us so I just brought a fly rig and my guitars. We sound checked and never played another note. Was easy as hell to tear down and throw it all back in my truck. I love my gear, but the hassle of setting up and tearing down in adverse conditions is not worth it to me to bring it out. Honestly, if I had a soundman I trusted every gig, I would just go to an electronic solution.

looks like the singer is wearing a Pied Piper music store shirt. That's a blast from the past. It was the biggest store in WV(not saying much) for years. Killer trip was heading to Charleston for a concert and hitting Pied Piper and Budget tapes and records. Good times....

Steve is originally from Piedmont. WV. He put that shirt on and told the story of how he got hooked up with The Shooz and then Kix.

Killer.. I was hoping someone would post pics.. too bad about ronnie.. the new guy has the parts and tone down though. Steve's voice is still hanging in there... he can still do cold shower..lol which is tough to sing!

He only has trouble on occasion with Don’t Close Your Eyes. Amazing at his age he’s still bringing it.
