looks like a legit 83 to me? Remember, they only made 500 "grail" baretta's with the non angled banana headstock. Im sure the kramerforum is all over this one. $4500 is way over but Ive seen original 83's sell up to $3500 in mint condition

Correct Headstock for 83'

Also, when did these get so high in price?

$4,500 is stupid, but seeing many others on ebay for $2,000 and higher

$4500...and the worst description for a guitar of that kind of asking price that I've ever seen.

The flat drop-away headstock is legit...that was the first run...the same in the original "best guitar you can buy" ads with EVH. The necks had a habit of going twisty, usually just out of the warranty period.

Yup. Priced way too high. As pointed out by Darden....the necks had a real issue, especially at the top near the nut where they would warp. Mine did it right after the warranty was done of course. I replaced it with a Lasido Charvel clone neck. Worked amazing from that point on.

My neck went twisty...

It was a shame. I loved that guitar.

The only thing I am a little unsure of is the color.

I had a 86 awhile back and most all I see are kinda a offwhite/cream...definately a yellowing.

Unless this thing was sealed in an airtight container.

I actually thought that they came out with that headstock in 84? Hence the 84 reissue.

I believe that you are right. I bought a 1983 Pacer Imperial new, with the "beak" headstock. I bought a 1986 Baretta new and it had the pointy-droopy black headstock. Look at the copyright date at the bottom of that Kramer-EVH magazine ad. :D

Mind you that this WAS 30 years ago, and I'm not sure how long my guitars had been hanging on the stores' rack.

I had the same one. But the KRAMER was Gold color on the headstock.
Bought it brand new old stock back in 1987.
