Should I? Clips sound pretty good surprisingly... I can pick up the head and matching 4x12. Kinda want to have a strictly metal beast around...

That's a good deal, but I played a lot of Kranks and they often come off a bit fizzy buzzy and thin. They did sound good on Dime's later recordings and were used a lot on St Anger- on these clips they come off awesome. Maybe it's tube dependent on needs a few mod tweaks to get it going.

The cabs are awesome. Legends are way cool, Texas Heats not so much for modern metal but solid for rock.

the Rev+ is actually pretty damn good. They are a metal machine. I had both the original and the plus. The plus smokes the original imo. That's a good deal for both the head and cab. I think the cabs came with some model of Eminence. Either way I would do it. :)

Seems like a great deal. I seem to recall reading cabs were possibly solid and not ply.

I got the 50w Rev + SST412 and I like them.

They are tricky to dial in though. The sweep knob isn't really a mid sweep but more like a global tone knob. The best way is to leave the 3-band EQ flat at first, get the tone in a ballpark you like with the sweep, then fine tune with the 3-band EQ.

Yep, solid pine loaded with Eminence V12s if it's a Revolution 4x12. Oversized and ported too. The amps can sound cool but I've heard some reliability issues.

-KRANK makes great cab's OS PORTED SOLID WOOD/BOARD cabs. -( older cabs are made of POPLAR new ones PINE )- i like the old POPLAR cabs better for heavy music but but love & own a pine board cab.

I stopped listening to criticisms of Krank amps a long time ago. Whatever people say about them isn't really suggestive in much of the audio I've heard from them. I played that little Rev Junior stack too and that sounded badass. They used to make a distortion pedal that seemed very underappreciated. A few years after they stopped, I saw a number of clones of that pedal on the market. I think it was called the Distortus Maximus or something like that. Go for it man. You'll probably get some great tones out if it.

i had one of the ORIGINALS in 2003. Revolution 1. the build quality was BADASS. basically it was a modified SOVTEK MIG 100 which is derivative of the JCM 800. They copied the SLO component choice as well. The amp had a SWEEP knob that was make or break. basically the circuit around this sweep should have been a little different to limit the range. It could go way too high into SPIKE territory. Swept between 1-3 it has a nice low mid or high mid marshall voicing. the amp was good enough that I swapped in a Mercury OT and it got even better. I only sold it to start my gear obsession. it was my first smaller brand amp . if you find PCB pics on the internet of it they are mine.

when I see REV 1 go for $500 I alway think about grabbing another one, with some mods it can be most marshallls and has a killer build quality for that price.

The dimebag amp then became more popular but IMO sounded worse with a built in front end SS OD. those two caveats combined with the shady business practices of one employee led to their downfall.

I wouldn't... but that's me. Never liked how these sound.

I love God Forbids tone from Constitution of Treason, Rev1 boosted with a TS.
Key is to dial back the gain, boost it and play with a head hand.
I also have an original poplar Krank 412. I swapped the V12 Legends for a mix of V30s and Vet30s. Killer concussion- like lows...

hilarious, it was that head they lent me for a recording that had me call Krank and get one.

I think I saw a vid on gus g playing one and if I remember correctly, it sounded ok.

I’d stay away from any company with a website that looks like it was designed by a 9 year old, and for years didn’t give any specs on the products. Wonder what the customer service is like.

Are you talking about how a Krank employee was on forums pumping how great Krank was as if they were a regular Joe? I don't think forum cred had anything to do with Krank's name vanishing from mainstream conscienceness. That was ill received, but likely not the reason they "went down".

Tony Krank was a local AZ amp guy making/modding cool amps. A successful water treatment guy wanted to hang out with stars, so he backed Krank which then hit the scene with people like Dimebag and Metallica using their gear and hanging out. On a side note, Chapman was a talented guy who made the Krank Chapman model- which is a way cool Marshally amp with awesome cleans if you never played one. Chapman eventually went into a non musical field, some kind of high level engineering thing I think.

A few years go by and the water treatment guy got bored and left. Without the big corporate bucks, all star power/big marketing/big production left too.
Tony Krank still kept making amps (Revolution) and eventually has the Krank name back now (I think). I believe he is still working, but on a much smaller scale.

I bought a used Krank Nineteen80 Jr. amp head a couple of years ago from an out of state Craig's List seller for $300 used that is absolutely awesome! It's like a high quality, boutique, hot rodded 20 watt Marshall head with a good clean channel, channel switching, effects loop, and made in the U.S. Other than the poor marketing or shady reviews posted by an ex-employee, I find my Krank Nineteen80 Jr. amp head to be a great sounding, high quality amp head. The only problem is that I keep looking for a Nineteen80 Jr. amp head and they either keep getting bought up. Someone out there seems to like them.

I know Tony started STIFF amps after leaving KRANK. I'm not really up to date on either companies current status though.

Are you talking about the Krank Chadwick amp? That was co-designed with Allan Chadwick. Here's the schematic and some history concerning the Krank Chadwick amp: http://www.achadwick.com/ElectronicsBlog/Result/Krank Chadwick Series Schematic
