Good tones? Or kinda shitty? Please elaborate...

Revolution is more versatile, Krankenstein is Dime-tone.

Which = bacon sizzling in a frying pan

Rian, I think you would like the Revolution much more, but not sure if you would even dig that.

Played them both and thought they both sounded like bacon sizzle.

They only sizzle when the Presence, Sweep and Gain controls together are over 5.

There is a guy locally selling one for cheap, and I was gonna hook up with him to try it out, but after the weekend I was reading reviews that they were pretty light due to the transformers being junk? I know the Krankenstein+ has a whole new Transformer system.

They only time I had heard one was God Forbid playing them. They sounded pretty good, but everyone does that loud!

If that is the case, I better stay clear! I am used to my quickrod and there is no sizzle to it.

HATED IT!

I had one for a bit, didn't get along with it AT ALL. Dime-tone? nah...... I'm a Randall FREAK, and can dial in Dime-tones all day long, but I couldn't get a usable tone out the Krankenstein to save my life.

The Revolution is a killer head, but the K-Stein blew.....

Yup i completely agree!! Definitly isnt even close to Dime's tone.. The Randalls kill the Krankenstein in everyway.

 ....and I thought with Damage Plan those were stock Krankensteins on stage??

I am sure they were, but most people don't consider Dime's tone the tone of Damageplan. They think of "Fucking Hostile!"

They were modded Revolutions.......

For the Album he was using Randall X2..... FWIW, I saw them with the Kranks and his tone was AWEFUL!

Personally, I think the 'stein is dialed in a little bright and buzzy for my tastes....and I also do not like the overall master volume thing. It kinda seems to take away the great clarity of the Revolution.
The clean has a little gain and dirt to it. My Rev was modified so the clean channel has the Rev clean, "1/2 Dime", and the Krankenstein clean on a switch.
The thing I did like however, is the FX boost. The Revolution Series One effects loop is unpowered and unusable unless you have something in there with a decent pre-amp. The FX Boost is in the Rev+ Series, so I guess that was a good idea they kept. You can use the FX boost to really blast your pre signal to OD the power amp section.
The rumor about bad transformers is BS. I have been in and out of the Krank repair area a bunch and am friends with the repair guy, and I've never seen or heard him talk about bad transformers.
The newer Plus series for the 'stein and Rev have larger transformers and tubes, 120 watts. They were designed to have the same footprint as the original transformers, so I imagine if any head came in for warranty repair needing a transformer they would get the new larger one anyway as I know that there are no more NOS transfomers left at Krank. As soon as they ran out, there were no more Rev Series One or Krankenstein heads built, all production went to the Plus models and no transformers were reserved for use in repairs.

I didnt have any tech problems with it, and yea, those trannies were tiny, the thing weighed less the a Randall RG.....

I just did not care for it at all..... Couldn't find a tone in it I liked, and I seriously tried, cause I loved the Revo. I figured this one would be badass as well, but was left very disappointed.

Huh. I know it's pretty much a one-trick pony, but I thought your wife said it was your best tone ever?

J/K - It took a bit of screwing around to get my Revolution dialed in exactly right, I can't imagine dealing with the master volume thing on top of it all. I know that poses a problem for a lot of guys, and the guys who are fanatical about the 'stein are total hardcore metal heads. Rockers don't like them much at all.
