Krankenstein's a JCM800 on steroids?

I had one years ago. Not at all like a marshall, much more compressed!

No, it sounds NOTHING like an 800! Kranks sound like no other amp and definitely an acquired taste IMO.

I will pass..I cant believe Dimebag went with that company...I would have loved to see him on a Herbert...

He was a part owner of the company (Kinetico) that owns Krank.

I've heard that before (Dime was an owner) but I can't seem to find any proof backing it up...nothing trying to hi jack the thread nor am I trying to start a flame war, but just curious if someone could show proof?

Krankensteins sound nothing like an 800. They sound as close to an SS amp as you can get with tubes. I always thought thats why Dime used them.

Krankenstein was a modded Revolution Series One, Rev1 was based on a Sovtek Mig 100. The first couple of runs of the Revolution were in fact Sovtek chassis and transformers, with the boards being Tony Dow's own, if semi-pirated, design.
The Revolution Series One and original Krankenstein have not been made for years.
They were replaced by the Plus models which have many changes to the design and use four 6550 power tubes.
The Chadwick series were much more Marshall-y in design.
Alan Chadwick left Krank and the Chadwick amps, single channel and switcher, are no longer in production.
The Chadwick Series was replaced by the Nineteen80....
The Nineteen80 is a Marshall on steroids. Two 6550's for 80 watts. Tube powered loop with Send and Return level control.

If you're still judging Krank by the original Rev and 'stein design, you're really missing a lot.

It sounded like a bee hive on steroids to me when I heard it live, but I've heard people make them sound great...

You know what I think much of that is? After they ran out of Sovteks, the transformers they had made for a couple years I think were not beefy enough.
I have a really old custom order Rev1, but I had the Plus trannies put in and it sounds sooo much fatter with less gain, I can tell you where the new transformer design came from, but not in the open forum.
Also I think Dime was losing the high end of his hearing, the tone stack in the 'stein was really juiced on the higher frequencies and he picked out those Texas Heats... Just the whole combination creates buckets of treble.
