I love the way a KT77 does the cleans like a 6L6 and the distortion like an EL34, so I was wondering if there was a direct replacement tube like this for the 6L6. anybody know?

In what amp? And do KT77's really do that?

The Tung Sol EL-34B does that IMO, but it's an EL-34....don't know of a 6L6 that crunches like an EL-34...ever :/

if you're talking about JJ KT-77's? i think JJ's are great in a XXX, but pretty much hated them in every other amp i tried them in.

for KT-77's and most amps, the Gold Lions are ones i'll crow about.

with that said, as far as i know, the only way to get EL-34ish in the 6L6 vein is with KT-66's. but i never paid attention to how they do cleans.

for 6L6's that rock the house there's the SED's, they're kindda crunchy, but not as crunchy as 34's.

don't remember at all about thier crunch, but for some reason the cheap ass Sovtek 5881's come to mind?

yeah they were jj's. Can you just put kt66's in an amp that was designed for 6l6's?

yup, as far as i know they're good to go, and i've ran them in several deferent amps.

might not hurt to ask your amp builder to be safe.

you can't replace 6l6s with kt77s unless your amp can also run el34s.

6l6-5881-kt66
el34-kt77-kt88-6550

You can drop in a KT66 in place of a 6L6.
The 66 will need to biased a bit higher though.
The filament needs more current.
