I'm starting to want to try these out. I had problems with my strings for years, a buddy of mine suggested GHS Boomers and I can honestly say I had the worst experience ever with them  Then I went through all of the other brands and could never be satisfied until I started using Elixirs. I use them on my acoustics too, it really brought them to life after using the EXPs, I was shocked when I put them on. I'm not even remotely interested in changing to another brand with how happy I am with these but I hate feeling like I might be missing out on something better   I might have to get some just to use in case I break a string, which might take a while because since I've made the switch I haven't had a single string break and It's probably been around 5 months. How do you think they stack up against each other?

I personally don't like Elixer's at all I've never even bought a pack but I've played them on quite a few guitars out there... Elixers always make stuff sound "plastic" to me, and I don't mean they sound BAD it's just they don't have the same amount of sparkle as normal strings. Elixers for sure will last longer, I guarantee it, I haven't tried the Mangan coated strings and I have no intention to, I just don't like the feel or sound of coated strings in general. Sorry I'm not more help dude :(

Hey no problem man, I didn't care too much for the coated EBs but these I like. I think I'll look in to giving the Mangans a try one of these times. Thanks.

I like their nickel wounds too. I normally use D'Addario but I think Mangan makes a very good string.

Don't you find the D'Addario wear out really fast??? Every time I've ever tried them they just corrode and wear out faster than hell! It's like that sealed bag makes them faster to die when exposed to normal air lol.

Not for me man. Ernie Ball die on me really quickly, as do DR but D'Addarios I can get some good life out of. That said, I do change strings every 10 days or so, so I dunno whether that factors into how I feel about them.

Hey Dallas, do you know how they compare to Dean Markleys? Ive been using them for electric for about 15 years. Also Ive heard that if you order around 10 or more sets from Curt, he'll put your name on custom packaging for each string set. Pretty cool.

Hey Drop,

I have no idea how they compare to Markleys... if I have played them it's been a while and I don't remember, sorry I can't recall more dude :(

Your welcome man, let me know how those coated ones compared to elixers for future reference, there's certain really bright guitars the coated strings apparently sound better on according to what I've heard.

Thanks!

See this is the kind of stuff that has me so convinced there is no ONE best string and thank god there's a lot of brands, everyones sweat is like chemically different or something, I don't know if it's diet or genetic makeup or what the heck it is. Because D'Addarios melt for me where as GHS seemingly never go bad from tarnish just eventually die on me tonally.

I tried some DR's they were pretty good feeling/lasting but they were too stiff for my tastes. The important thing is that the D'Addarios work for you, I know Brad Carlton uses the D'Addarios from when I took lessons from him speaking of which (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luf_IAHZP9U) cool lesson from him I just youtubed.

Yea the fact that you change them every 10 days doesn't make to much of a difference to me, they would go bad in like a day for me haha. Just get funky!

I say if the D'Addarios work for you stick with them, if it ain't broke don't fix it haha.

My D'Addarios generally last a long time for me, with the exception of the 12 string acoustic set I have, those corroded on me.

I am convinced I am going to give the Curt Mangan's another try. I think I will stick with the blue packaged nickle wraps....

Right on man, lemme know how they work out for you!

Well, i just did my 4th 4 hour show a set of the Mangan coated acoustic strings. They stil sound good. Ive been wiping them down every night. Im going to change them now cause I dont want to risk breaking a string during a show. Breaking a string is a show stopper when your by yourself on stage   Ive been using the daddario EXP coated strings for a couple years now. I think the EXPs are a bit louder, fuller and more natural sounding. The mangans sound pretty good though and with some good eq you probably couldnt tell the difference. And they seem to be easier on the fingers. A bit less tension but still have a good solid feel. They seem to last as long as the EXPs and theyre a little cheaper so I think Im going to switch over to the Mangans.

I also did an electric show this weekend and I strung up my main PRS with a set of nickle wrap Mangan 10-52's. I normally play Blue Steel. The Mangans lasted the entire show and still have some good life left. The Blue Steels (depending on sweat) last 2-3 shows for me - and im a little picky. I noticed the mangan 52 wasnt as dull as the BS 52. And they were a little rougher on the fingers. The tension feels lighter but the wound strings feel rougher than the BS. Over all I thought they sounded good but I dont know about these strings yet. Think im gonna try a set on a strat.

Really weird you feel they are rougher man, they feel a lot different from normal strings, but I felt it was like the winding was more uniform or something... they def. feel different under your fingers thats for sure. I don't know how to compare their coated or acoustic strings haha, I only have their nickle wound for electrics lol.

Yeah my fingers were hurting by the end of the night. (please try not to post any "happy gilmore" one-liners :D ) And its weird because they feel lighter than the Blue Steel 10-52s. I was definately sore. The BS feel smoother when you slide down the neck.

Ahh I know what you mean by them feeling smoother when you slide down, I'm used to playing on Steel GHS boomers... so these felt great to me, but maybe the winds are a little bit bigger or something to that effect?

Seriously I just put some Kurt Mangan Nickle Wrapped on my guitar.. it was like taking a damn blanket off the thing! I can't believe how much of a difference it made!!! Plus they are super balanced really dig what they did for my custom axe

I had these a long time ago and haven't used them in a few years, and since my ears and rig have matured quite a bit strings REALLY make a substantial difference to my ears now... when your running through crappy equipment it's just not as sensitive to changes.

This pack is 2 years old and feels better than anything I've tried since I last put them on another guitar ages ago!

Do you mean Nickel Wound or steel wrapped??

Thanks!

I thought I would update this old thread as I finally had a chance to further evaluate Curt Mangan strings, the nickle wrapped. The Verdict, I really like them. They have a great feel, they feel a little smoother than D'Addario. I also notice a touch more high end and clarity than D'Addarios. I love that CM has a pick of the rics pack for Rickenbackers, those are great after dealing with sticky Rickenbacker brand strings.

I still have a bunch of D'Addario packs and will probably use those on my less played guitars. The CM's nickle wrapped are a little more than D'addarios, but not much. I got my from strings and beyond (see my previous post), they seem to have the best price on them.
