I had some time this past week to drive up to Satan’s promised land and have my rig re-wired by Dave Phillips and Martin Golub at LA Sound Design in Burbank. They re-did the George L mess I had in there and replaced it all with Mogami. Yes, you can hear a subtle difference in several ways. The rig is a little quieter, and more importantly, it feels like there is a quicker attack on the low end. Of course, I am very pleased to have a nice, neat internal wiring. I can’t thank Dave and Martin enough! I had a great time at my gig last night running it full-bore. There was where I noticed a smoother top end.

While waiting impatiently in LA, I had the chance to free-load and hang with some buds. Alex Machacek just got a cool new Port City 2x12 OS cab that sounds absolutely sick. I liked the 2x12 at LA Sound Design, but I liked Alex’s even more. So, I am probably going to try one of those and two of the 1x12s for a W/D/W. BTW, it is really easy to switch my rig back and forth from two main configurations:

DUAL STEREO: Guitars and FX in stereo mix using the 2 Egnater power sections as L and R. Synth and peizo to full range cabs via the Rocktron power amp. FOH mics 2 cabs and gets 2 DI outs with the piezo/synth.

W/D/W Guit & STEREO Synth/Piezo: Dry guitar to one cab and guitar FX to two cabs via Rocktron power amp. FOH mics 3 cabs and Synth/Piezo to FOH only and I just have to get it right in the monitors. This is only for gigs where I have more time to set up.

Yeah, even though we know each other well, I still get self-conscious playing in front of that guy... I love how smoothly he is able to make that esoteric harmony flow. Yikes! We are having a blast on this Normalizer 2 project with German drummer Marco Minneman to be released when all the composers' version are done. I started first and am just now done, so we are still waiting for Alex, Mike Keneally and maybe Trey Gunn to finish writing over Marco's 51-minute solo.

Man that rig is something!!

I bet it sounds huge!

Martin does fantastic rack wiring, not to mention just about everything else.. David is a real top notch guy too! i'v sent emails to LA Sound Design before and they've always got back to me fast and been very helpful!

Yeah, those guys are super pro and super chill. I was amazed they were so patient with me as I was tripping about getting back to San Diego for a rehearsal gig - which all went off on schedule.

Thats the impression i have gotten from many other people who went with Martin and David to put together their rigs. Very pro and very patient and helpful to meet the customers needs!

If i have the money oneday to have a pro rig built for me, LASoundDesign would be the place for me to go. Either that or Dave Friedman at RackSystems. Another fantastic rig builder and very cool guy!
