I went to see two bands I've seen quite often and befriended both of them. Near my age and they do old school metal and cover DIO-era Sabbath, etc. The other bands is really heavy and sound like early 80s metal.
One band had two Marshall 4x12s and 100 watt Marshall heads and sounded glorious. My band does gigs at the place and isn't a big place. Nice big old school rig. Then the second band got up on stage and one guy has a Helix into a Seymour Duncan Powerstage and 5150-III 2x12 cab. The other guitarist has a Kemper into some sort of solid state power amp and a Mesa 2x12. Both had great tones.
I figured I'd mention both because I got to hear tube tone followed by modelling tone and was impressed by both. I could obviously tell one was modeled but still sounded good. I think that is the key thing, that tones can be usable and sound really good and comes down to personal preference. The band with the stacks drove off with a huge truck pulling a huge trailer, lol. I pack my stuff in my trunk, lol.
