on one of my guitars i have a volume/tone setup with emg 81/60 combo. it has a nice full sound without being overly bright. on another guitar i have an emg 81/60 setup with only a master volume. it is very bright. both are similar woods, and maple necks. my guess is the tone control, even though all the way up, still tames a bit of the brightness but i am unsure. if this is the case, is there a resistor or something i can add inline to give it the effect of having a tone control all the way up, or what should i do? i really dont wanna add a tone control to the guitar.

i remember reading that there's pots that are removed when turned all the way up. maybe noload pot ? could be wrong

I think i found my answer doing some searching. Imma try adding a 500k resistor and a .022 cap inline

Almost correct ;) Put them in parallel, going to ground. So two wires coming from the output of your volumepot; one going to the outputjack and one going to the resistor/cap combo.

Good luck !

Ok, so the resistor/ cap combo from the volume pot output to ground, and the normal output wire going to the inputjack ?

did you replace the existing pots with the ones EMG provides? most guitars normally use 250k or 500k pots. EMG's use 25k's (I believe)

I had an older ESP MII Custom that had just a volume with EMGs (81 in the bridge), and it was so bright and metalic sounding..... I changed the 81 out for an 85 and I still had the same problem. I eventually sold it, but now thinking back, I wish I would have looked into it a little further, but I sold it.... :aww:

Yep; you can also try putting the res/cap parallel to the input of the volumepot. This changes the (tone)behaviour when lowering the volumepot.

The remark on the EMG potvalues is a good one though. Maybe you don't want a 500k resistor. I don't know what values EMG usually uses for their tonepots.

Yeah i used the emg volume pot.
