I've heard about these things for years, and there's one on my local craigslist for $300. Its an 8 knob 50 watter. Is that a good price for them?
I've always heard they were close to an 800 in tone. Is this true?? Think I might pick it up to run in stereo with my 2203......

My friend got one to be used as a slave amp. Yes it sounds British but I certainly wouldn't mistake it for a Marshall IMO. Hiwatts also have the British kerrang but again, different than a Marshall.

The 5 or 6 knob AOR's are the hotrodded JCM800 spin offs, the 8 knobbies less so. I have one and I gutted it and put a PTP in it. Sounded alright but the bass boost was useless unless the amp was cranked and at bass at 0 (yup it did make a diference though counter intuitive)and without it, it was a thin amp.. BUT great mod platform and i got mine at the time for 400$ or so. Can't hurt to check it out..

I used to have the AOR100 back in the 80's...had a pissed off hot-rodded 800-ish tone. Very cool amps IMO, and $300 is a fair price.

Yeah I figure for $300 I can't lose if it at least hangs with the marshall volume wise. I don't really care if it sounds just like a marshall, but a similar lineage I guess.. ill check it out tom. Might be the one that gets sent off and modded to hell and back lol. I like to leave the 800 unmolested.

Good price! Grab it.

Owned an AOR 2 for awhile, ( super pissed off one, pull everything, can of bees channel switch)

Crazy loud!
Dark sounding, but not in a bad way.
could get fizzy, just crank master.
Chipboard headshell?! Supposedly cheap internals over time.
Luvs da boost!

Glad I owned, and enjoyed one.

Notorious for breakdowns, my tech back yes ago says to stay away. They can sound pretty nice when working properly.

I have owned an AOR 100 (8 knob) since new in 1988 and it has had minimal service required. It's going to be headed to Voodoo before long to get a makeover, but it is not useless as is. Noisy, yes... but you can wring some good stuff out of one.

got a nine knob 50 watt combo. it's darker than a marshall.. but still a lot of fun to mess with. 300 is a good price.

Had a couple of 8 knob 50 watters that I used for years. Never any issues with either of them. I don't have them anymore but know where they are and they are still working properly.

The 8 knobbers had a cascading gain preamp. Push in the preamp knob and it was essentially a 6 knobber and was similar in gain amount to a 800.

when i got mine it had a couple of pots that had to be repaired. a local tech who is good with tube amps had no problem getting everything working properly. new tubes and a bias.. good to go. i'd check the tubes to see if they are stock. mine was and it had rft's in the pre and power sections. they can be picky about pre amp tubes because of the cascading gain.

also-if you have an 800, buy a rectifier and run it in stereo with it. thank me later.
