I'm torn between the 2....In terms of versatility, and overall tone, which would you prefer?

ive never played a lany TT100H, but i have played a tony iommi model.

i have played plenty of JSX's, and they can sound great if you have a decent set of tubes and a great set of speakers to play through.

i also like JSX's when they are cranked, i dislike them like the plague at low volume levels. the resonance controls are wierd and the controls are active, and you can tell at lower volumes big time.

one of my favorite tones was at sam ash with a JSX cranked all the way up through two marshall cabinets and using a cheap POS $300 LTD guitar.

but i have also played JSX's that sound and play like complete ass, and were extremely hard to dial in.

had a JSX with Kt77 and I miss it. but I was only playing the ultra channel. the clean is okay, but I didnt like the rythm one (not enough gain ;) )

On the forums at least the Laney TT series never really caught on that well (laneys in general are under the radar). When I was researching the Laney VH100R versus the TT100H, I got a few responses from those who had played both and the prevailing opinion was that the Vh100R was better, so I went with that. The VH100R is one of the few amps I miss. Just food for thought.

As for the JSX, I think it has active tone controls like the triple XXX, so keep that in mind if you are demoing it....

I've owned a JSX, so I know what to expect. I've owned a few Laney GH's, played a VH, but never a TT. I can get a brand new TT for $899, which is pretty cheap. Just can't play it.

I had a Laney TT50 head. The clean to mid gain tones were pretty good, but it could not get a modern high gain tone, which is why I got rid of it. As far as the JSX goes, I prefer the XXX which is the platform they started with when they created the JSX.

Had a TT100H a few months ago. Kept it for about 2-3 weeks. Nice clean and good crunch channels but after a couple gigs with it I decided the lead/heavy channel (had the modern switch, boost, etc.) just didn't get the job done. When I first got it I thought it sounded nice and all but ...................................... probably was the BB preamp that I boosted it with instead of the amp itself.

Not enough gain? Tonal characteristics?

I think I've gone with a Triple XXX..
