Larry DINO JM802 Video

I think, at the end of the day it’s more about “what do I enjoy doing, and how can I get MORE enjoyment out of it?”
For instance, if you play golf maybe one day you want to challenge yourself to an open type course(St Andrews, Shinnecock) and see how you measure up. Cars? Maybe one day it’s your dream to own a Porsche or maybe a classic US muscle car, or in my case a soon to be bought C6-7 Corvette. Playing out in bars, festivals, casinos etc I could have cared less what I played through for the first 20 years of gigs. But the final 10 years I caught the gear chase bug. So now I get an absolute rush out of turning my amps up and letting it rip…puts a huge smile on my face. It’s for my enjoyment; as I’m a home player now. I’ve become a high gain tone snob in some ways, I know what tones I like and if I need to spend more to get it, I will. Sure, I’d have been fine playing my mini rack until this very day but I chose to chase down some cool gear, and it’s been a blast. If you are just as happy with your Mako as you think you would be with a Larry, good on you.
But owning gear has nothing to do with how accomplished a player you are….it just shows how much you like and enjoy gear, no matter your skill level.
I understand completely. Never did I say that the amp did not sound great. It does indeed sound killer. While I would have no problem playing on a Larry if given the opportunity, I have no business at St. Andrews or Shinnecock unless I was mowing or spectating (I'm a worse golfer than I am a guitarist). Would I love to play there? Absolutely. Would I spend the coin for a membership? Absolutely not.

Thanks for being civil unlike others in this thread (possibly myself included).

I sold a very nice mint condition loaded Steavens Poundcake 100w and one of my very rare mint condition Bogner Ecstasy 100B’s, to purchase my new Larry Dino.
Did it cost me a lot yes…
Do I regret it? Absolutely not!👍😂

An old guy I used to work with once told me, “live it up, it’s later than you think”!
I’m not completely extravagant, but if there’s something I want, especially an amplifier, I just buy it, and the Larry Dino has been the best purchase for me over the last 25 years!

Thank you for your kind words!
I honestly feel myself flattered and highly honored 😇

The older I get, the more I feel this way too, RacerX!

100% agreed, I can't imagine playing without
my Larry now 😂

And as far as being "worth it" - it took me two weeks of owning my 822, to order an additional PMM from Larry!

For me ‘my’ tone is a 72 SuperTrem with a couple cheap ass (less than 100 for both) pedals in front, through any of my 4 vintage Marshall cabs. Just playing simple ‘3 chords and a cloud of dust’ AC/DC riffs for even a few minutes a day just sounds so damn good. If I had a chance to own a Larry I’d sell everything but that amp and one cab to get one. And one of my Charvels will stay of course.

Sounds good, I dunno if it sounds "special" enough to warrant that price, but hey it's cool. I do find the logo aesthetically pleasing

Anyone know what the cost is to put an order in for a Dino ? And these take what like 3 years for him to deliver ?

I'm one of those who know this, but - an old principle - I don't post prices publicly in the web.
Why? The prices are valid today, next week and maybe still in a few months...
... but someone is reading this thread 4 years later - with prices, which already are past.

Drop me an email or write me a message through the board, then I'd forward my current price list to you 😉

How many of your amps are there in existence? A rough idea will suffice. 100? 2500? 10000?

Although @Alex_S explained it very well, I would also add that this early dino 802 is "softer" and perhaps more "sag" than even my 822 - I would guess preamp filtering, as Eddy and Larry have mentioned.
The reason for this is easily explained:
The DINO JM 802 has been designed in Feb of 1991 and after some more extensive checking my notes I've figured out, that I've built the amp of the video in Feb of 1992, what's been already after the 2-nd circuit update.
The 3-th circuit update was some more extensive, hence I've renamed the rebuilt to DINO JM 812
Your DINO JM 822 again has been an extensive circuit update with now 4 sounds on the floor instead of 3 as before.
Although the difference in the sound of your amp is only partially a result of 2 circuit updates further...
... it's the result, that the pre owner of your amp brought the amp himself from Austria in 2003 for the current DINO update of that time,
while the amp of the video never has been back in my hands for an update.

Still another fact what not should be overlooked is, that your amp is a 100W model, while the amp of the video is a 50W model.

The differences would be more pronounced with a 939 or (I assume) a 962, I would also say.
You're speaking straight out of my heart - and yes, I'd be extremely curious, how Eddy would sound, if he'd be playing through a current DINO 939 or 962 model

It's always been so cool and interesting to hear the history of my specific amp, as it has given me so much joy (and been freeing creatively)

For many, your amps are obviously "special" in sound, but the really awesome part is having the feeling that you have the tool made for exactly what you want to accomplish.

I really am very excited for my second one!
