These are nice as well. I have a BBR7 and really love it. It is head and shoulders above the regular production LPCs (even though they are made in the Custom Shop now, they are built by a different build team compared to the True Customs, M2M, Historics etc). All mahogany top and body.

Yup, I wrote him the other day he replied a few hours ago, $270 fedex... I'm thinking about it. You just can't find anything even close to that locally here in Hawaii.

I think i'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on a new used LP and then came across a PRS SC58 (not stripped) for a similar price. It's pretty like most PRS but was wondering if anyone had thoughts about the following if comparing with a R8 or LPC

1. Which sounds better for metal?
2. Which is more comfortable to play?
3. Which sounds better for metal?

I have a non singlecut PRS already and know they stay in tune better and the build quality is often more superior etc, but I want something that sounds great for the thrashy kind of stuff I like to play... not trying to start a PRS vs Gibby war most of us out there have both Hoping to hear from peeps with LP's and PRS SC, SC245s, SC58s etc.

I've been down it several times... PRS builds an exceptional axe... but it doesn't sound or feel like a good Gibson LP. Just saying.

From the PRSi I've owned, the Tremonti HardTail or SC250 or even the new Tremonti Baritone (25.5 inch scale length and tuned to drop C from the factory) would be the usual suspects. These all will work for metal... but a different sound than a LP. The mids are most noticeably different. It's a more hollow, mellow, missing mid tone. They are darker, warmer, and not as cutting in the high-mids and high-end like a LP. There a big difference when you play them side to side. I've had some really amazing PRSi (most were sold to members on this forum )... but it's entirely a different animal.

Also think about how many metal bands/artists do you see rocking a PRS . Not a knock... just saying. Paul builds a super quality guitar... but there is a reason he keeps chasing the classic LP tone/shape/esthetic. Whether is it be thru pups, the SC body shape, neck pattern et al.

I agree. I own PRS and Gibson. I really like both. Both play great. PRS is a much better build cosmetically but tonally Gibson wins almost every time for me easily. I personally choose tone and playability over perfect cosmetics which is why I almost always pick up my Gibsons when I gig live or just play for fun over my PRS.

If Gibson could get to PRS standards cosmetically it would be the best of everything but I doubt they ever will just due to Gibsons older build style and equipment compared to PRS's newer build style.

To the OP's question. I have a R8 and LPC. I love both but I seem to pick up and play my 2005 LP Custom way more than my 2013 R8.

Just something about my Les Paul Custom (in my avatar) that I gravitate to. Maybe it's because I am more into hard rock/metal and it just sounds better, even though both seem to fit that style great. My '05 LP Custom just feels right. I've been playing it pretty much 90% of the time lately.

Thanks guys for all the input... was finally ready to pull the trigger on a nice LPC reissue but decided that what I really needed (like any of us really "need" more shit lol) was that Ampete 444 amp head switcher thing... and like that *BOOM* the Ampete is on its way and am close to picking up a VHT Ultralead, both for the same price of that one LPC... GAS is a crazy thing

-I'm shocked that so many prefer the R-8 over a 1997 LPC,.. if the archives go back 10 years I bet it's the opposite,. I've been in the LES PAUL -(not just Gibson)- market for a couple years now, played billions of um, as many as I can find, thought I knew which direction to go, then I made --(THE MISTAKE)-- I played a 1976, LES PAUL STANDARD, ALL BEAT TO HELL,.. 13+ LBS,... 13lbs, holy cow. I can hardly shoulder my 10lb '73 lp custom, but I love that guitar. Sounds thick and mean. I learned that it didn't do well with high output pickups and does better with more PAF style. I have a set of Suhr thornbuckers in there that just really suit the guitar.

Not only is my '73 norlin as well, but apparently its a bad color for LPC, as its heritage cherry burst. I like the color and the guitar, but interesting to learn that people want their LPC in black, white, or silverburst.

-its hard for me to understand how some people worry, fret & over analyze superficial things like color on an instrument or amp,.. I could care less what it looks like,.. Music is for the ears & soul.

-PRS = "Fancy Towel" -(the ones the woman puts out on -----occasion's)- One time I made the mistake of actually using one to wipe my hands off on,... -ONCE!!!- -(I'm the only one who thinks PRS guitar feel like plastic & sound artificial,. I think PRS makes a prettier looking guitar thou)-
