What Floyd-equipped LP-style guitar would you pick? I'm especially curious about what options there are for a more vintagey spec'd LP with a Floyd (things like fatter neck, medium jumbo frets, full thickness body, etc).
Yeah, these were GC exclusives. There were two different necks(50's & 60's) and they had four different finishes.Gibson did a Les Paul traditional with a Floyd and they have the shred series with Floyd's or kahler. They don't have the belly cut or sculpted heel but way cheaper than an axcess. I have a traditional, it's great, has an onboard 10db boost on a push push pot too. I tend to like a fat neck but this is a slim taper neck. That said it's really fast, Easy, and comfortable to play
I know I know. It sickens me too but I can't help it. I really want a Floyd guitar but I'm a rhythm guy and not a shredder and despite my best efforts I can't get along with super strats. Heavy Les Pauls are where it's at for me. 9+ lbs or bustI felt a great disturbance in the guitar world, as if millions of mahogany trees suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened
Definitely looking sub $3k, ideally sub $2k. I don't think there are any current production full thickness LTDs or E-IIs with a Floyd. Were there older ones that had one?Key question, what price point are you looking at?
ESP / LTD has a number of full thickness, and IIRC ESP USA are all full thickness although they are weight relieved.
Theyr'e rare AF, but there are a few full thickness ESP Hanneman Eclipses out there with a Kahler and 81/85. Thin neck, though.
Yeah I would dig a full thickness, non weight relieved LP historic with a 60's neck and the Access heel.
I like the idea of an FRX. Should just try it. I think all my tuneomatic are ABR though, and I think it needs Nashville posts?I see quite a few newer Les Paul standard 50s available used. Could always pick one up on the cheap and throw an frx on it. I've got an ltd I threw an frx on and it works really well. Stays in tune, even supports a dtuna.
Honestly didn't even know the FRX was a thing til now. That seems like an obvious choice for me, although I see in your super helpful post linked below that you mention it's probably not ideal with medium jumbo frets.I see quite a few newer Les Paul standard 50s available used. Really low action potential is one reason I prefer Kahlers to Floyds, FWIW..Yeah, I like very low action and I suspect I won't be able to lower an FRX enough on an LP to get there.
