I swapped out the stock pups on my R9 with a set of Aldrich and now I have a feedback problem with higher gain settings. It's almost like the pups aren't potted but they are. I've got the RS wiring harness with CTS pots, paper and oil caps, and 50's style wiring. I know the 50's wiring is supposed to eliminate high end loss when lowering the volume but does it make the guitar brighter over all? The feedback is driving me nuts though. Any ideas on how to eliminate it?

If you don't like bright LP's, don't do 50's wiring. I find the modern wiring more to my tastes.

Do they have covers? If so... When it starts to feedback, push down on the pickup cover. If the feedback stops, you have an air gap where the potting didn't seal between the pickup and the cover.

The 50s wiring will make the guitar brighter overall. I've actually moved away from 50s wiring. If you don't want to loose treble when rolling down the volume, install a treble bleed.

Yep paul check the cover, lots of guys remove the cover then solder it back on when they sell the pickups and dont repot them. Feedback city.

The Aldrich set I installed don't have covers so it must be the 50's wiring. I've never gone that route before.

I had a feedback problems (and high end issues) with my Wolfetones and 50's wiring. They were not potted and thought that was the issue. Went back to modern wiring and the feedback and high end issues were gone. I'm betting it's the 50's wiring. Try backing the tone down to 8 and see what happens. If the feedback goes away. I'd re-wire it modern.

You're getting feedback when you are muting the strings? Or a string is vibrating/sympathetic vibrations?

I've never heard of '50s wiring causing feedback issues. And '50s wiring shouldn't be any brighter than modern when volume/tone are on 10. I've never heard of that either. And I've had both of my LPs wired both ways for years. But I'm no expert.

Could also be a bad solder joint.

It's a low frequency feedback when the strings are muted.

How low? Can you give a reference note? Is this at any volume or only at loud volumes?

It's around a low c and at stage volume.
