Atleast thats the conclusion I've drawn with the M90. I was just playing it and found my best tone yet. I cut way back on the gain and low end. This amp has such a massive amount of both. Now the amp is cutting while still very aggressive. Fat 80's metal tone withe the Boost function on but the the Drive turned to 10:00 and the gain at around 2:00. I have the Edge cranked but the fat at like 10:00. Anyone else use setting similar to this?

This should be common knowledge... keyword SHOULD. More gain = more compression and most amps are not designed to let all the tone "potential" truely shine through when you are cranking the gain. In other words the gain starts to blanket the true musical tone of the amp (if it has musical tone lol). Back when I first started playing I did not know anything about gear and only palyed metal, so I cranked gain all the time. As years go by I have been turning the gain down more and more until I hit that sweet spot where it is still mean and meaty, but a LOT less gain than most use. Your statement is 100% correct!!

My settings almost exactly...cranking the presence really adds 'perceived gain' too.

I have it exactly the same even down to the edge/fat settings on the back.....amp is amazing.

Ok tonight I got crazy and jacked up the gain knob. I was trying to up my shred chops and enjoyed the added gain and sustain.

That would be Betty Draper...and I obviously concur.

Harry this amp has a rediculous amount of gain.

I found this really to be true in the studio with MW...He kept dialing back the gain!

Different amp but same scene.....
I have a Engl Fireball 100.
Used to CRANK the gain to about 75% or at 7.
Now I play it most with the gain set about 3 or 4 and it is in Metallica Ride the lightning territory!!
More is not always better.........SOMETIMES!
Still like to kick it up...but for the most part leave it at about 4 and it KILLS!

 just twist the knobs until you get the tone! you playing with his settings probably wouldn't sound the same.

my philosophy is = more volume, less gain... or should I say - just add enough gain to get to your sound ;)

i've got the best tone yet with triode (30W) mode, channel 2 with engaged drive, master on 5, preamp on 5 and gain on 3... tone heaven!
