Is there any way to fix it?
The Real Cyberius listed the ways to fix it pretty succinctly:
There's no question that it would fix all the issues if these steps were implemented, but there's no way (((Adam Silver))) would ever do that. He's a bitch.
The real question is, with the league attempting to address tanking, are they ever going to address flopping? Or "load management"? Or "performance enhancing" drugs?
Probably not, unfortunately. And the ratings will continue to tank. Just as a reference point, since 2018 the ratings have basically halved. All of these problems have been around since the mid 2010s, but the whole COVID/BLM thing basically made every non-shitlib turn off the NBA. They stopped with the political posturing, but the viewers haven't come back.... and I think the product on the court is the reason why.
I'll also add that the league needs to address the problems with streaming. If you have a local team, the blackouts are not only punitive but ridiculous.
To actually catch every game of ONE team, you need at least 3 (sometimes more, in the case of the lakers and knicks) streaming services. THREE different subscriptions to get ONE teams games. That's out of control, and something needs to be done.
If the NBA doesn't address this shit, it's going to slowly die. You're going to think "there's no way, it's too big to fail", but the revenues are already dropping because tickets, streaming, etc are going up and interest in the game is going down.
Who wants their kid to emulate SG-Gay's flopping? Or LeBron's temper tantrums? No one wants their kid to emulate that shit. It's wack, and so is the NBA right now.
