I don't like Tool, I don't like Van Halen and I don't like U2

I should maybe because they're some of music big ones, but I cannot get into them.

you have a band you're "supposed" to like but just cannot ?

I`m not too fond of Tool either. I kinda like some of the stuff U2 did, but that`s probably because I had to listen a lot to them when I played bass in a U2 tribute band. I don`t have an opinion of Van Halen.. I like some of the songs, but in general, they are a little to "major" for me (chord-wise) I`m into darker music. But then I ought to like Tool... :D hehehe

Dude not liking Van Halen, i mean i understand U2 and Tool (not my kind of thing) but for real?

Man I knew there were some strange people out there :D

I know I know
:D

I'm not proud of myself for that. Van Halen really meant a LOT for the rock world.

I didn't use to like Jimi H. either, but I honestly forced that one down my spine..... there's NO WAY I wasn't gonna like Hendrix. As a guitar player I believe you need to get into Hendrix to understand how the modern guitar playing developed.

Thank god it worked. I'm not too fond of his vocals, but they work, and his songwriting is class A, but sometimes I find it a bit hard to grasp. But the guitar playing and vibe/groove totally makes up for those. :D

Loads, but particularly don't like Steve Vai (I have tried) but love Satriani. Seen Machine Head twice but don't get them - Machine fuckin' head........????

Another one I want to like is Dream Theatre so will give them another go this weekend

I on the other hand love Vai, but not a big satriani fan. However dont get me started on dream theatre I LOVE images and words, but im not big an anything after train of thought.

Bottom line for me is songs are king and melodic guitar solos I can hum are the deal. I hate speed for speed sake and if there isn't a hook I could care less. Slash and Jeff Beck for me are the Kings of a song in a song with the guitar solo.

I am NOT INTO the cookie monster stuff, and loud and fast to be loud and fast (ie: Dragonforce and those kind of bands).

Now early Yngwie and Randy Rhodes was fast with Melody and you gotta dig that! Michael Angelo Bato not so much. :scared:

I am not ashamed to say I like allot of the hard rock with hooks ie: Alter Bridge, Nickelback, Buckcherry, Creed, Sixx AM, Kid Rock, etc...

Buddy there is a line you do not cross......... :D

Did anyone else notice in that recent sweet home alabama thing he did, the solo is off key?

For me, it was GnR, cant stand them, mostly because Axil is such a pussy who tried to act like he was a badass :D

Some of my best moments were out of key and tune :D

For me its Jeff Beck. I think he is a great player, but I have 3 of his albums and just can't get into them much.

I hate GNR.
I really cant see how any Man over 12 years old could like Nickleback.
I really cant listen to SRV. I have tried to get it but I just cant. I love Bonamassa,Trucks,Warren Haynes etc but cant get into SRV.

I hate Pearl Jam and can really do without Neil Young, even though he sang about my hometown lol.

the beatles
never got into it, can't get into it, don't really want to get into it.

couldn't agree more....but add to that, the whininess of his vocal style.

Bands I truly HATE:

The Beatles
Dave Matthews
Led Zep

Bands I just don't get:

Smashing Pumpkins
Phish
Tool
Grateful Dead

Im not sure what supposed to like is really. I guess since this is rig talk that supposed to like means some of the guitar greats? humm well. maybe allot of ways to break it up maybe Im over thinking it...
Never got into (doenst mean I dont like but they just never get any play on my ipod)
1. steve via more technical than anything that appeals to me.
2. satriani ok surfing with the alien was cool but even now going back and listening to it just doesn't do it for me.
3. they guy from dream theater (that should give you a clue as to how much dream theater I listen to)
4. Jeff Beck just never could get into him
5. Dimebag, King and that ilk.
6. slash I dont think he is that good.
7. that guy with the two dean guitars built together flat out couldn't listen to this guy at all.
8. paul gilbert. there was some other thread on him. I think his style is that he has no style.
9. Yngwie (well there was his rising force album from when I was like in Jr High... but havent bothered to hear anything he has done since his triology album)

What does still give me warm fuzzies over many years though and still does
1. Brain May
2. Alex Lifeson
3. SRV
4. EJ
5. Randy Rhoads
6. David Gilmour
7, Steve Howe (haven't really listened to him recently though)

Outside of the guitarists I cant say there there is a shitload of new bands that impress me but I still give allot of play time to
1. Rush
2. Queen
3. Bad religion
4. Rise Against
5. NOFX
6. Peter Gabriel gets allot of play
7. Pink Floyd
8. Iron Maiden always seems to come back.

and VH? well that was then and junior high school has come and gone many years ago. Still like him just don't listen to VH anymore.
