I only have cheap guitars - expensive ones don't feel that different to me, so I just buy cheap and spend more $$$$ on amps :D ! Anyway, here's my clan of Rondo's and Squiers - I don't think I spent more than $200 on any of them except the floyded Rondo - I had to put a Gotoh floyd on it, so that cost me a little more (about $300 by the time I was done)...
That's awesome!
The more expensive guitars come from the factory setup well...frets all dressed nice.
With something like a Squier or an Epiphone, in the store they play like crap...but they just need some adjusting. They can become just as good a player for 1/10th the cost.

Actually most of the Squiers and Epiphones are crap period...just have to wade through them. :D

yup, wade throug 'em - I can usually find one I don't have to pay for a setup - that's when it's a real good deal! And the darn things are so cheap, it's hard not to buy one when it's sitting there for $100 and it plays good! Of course I usually put in a new bridge pickup, but I've found some killer pickups at Guitarfetish for real cheap :) .
Do tell which pickups are killer at Guitarfetish?
Interesting, I had some of their pickups bookmarked...any experience with these ones?

dude, the Neo9 rules for the bridge! I tried HS-3, some higher output virtual vintage dimarzio (vv solo, & solo pro) and the Neo9 was better than any of them. Serious stratty tone, but no icepick and plenty of output. And that was in the cheap Rondo, which doesn't sound very good "acoustically" if you know what I mean - kinda tinny sounding, but this pickup brought it to life.
Thanks! I'm thinking of trying a whole set, noiseless is good.
Would you say the Neo9 is high output like a Wolfgang pickup or more of a mid gain?

Hey this looks like a cool gadget...

It's an original Invader that was modded to Rampage specs. Bought it off Juggernaut here on on the forum. :)

I see now what some scallope players have spoken about, double bends and vibratos are super slinky and after the 3rd or 4th fret there is no issue going sharp. 1st three frets you have to go light or you will go sharp.

The yingyang pickups make you work hard, way too hard for my crap chops   Super fun to play though.

Yeah a dod cranked up with a marshall 50 watt cranked up and they are not so hard to play through but you still have to play clean. Any other way they are a bit of a struggle.

Hamer Archtop... 16+ years old. I installed some BKP's and a split coil pot on it, thing plays like buttah - always has, always will, and still blows the doors off many of my Lesters and others in the 'tone' department. Ain't just me either, lots of cats have picked this thing up and say it sounds, plays and feels better than any top-line PRS out there.

Go figure.

Peace,
V.

PS - since these shots were taken, I've installed some bronzy colored witch-hat knobs on it, the old school Lester style that are amber in color. Looks and feels like none other. MONSTER in the tone and playability departments.

Define cheap? My new Charvel was 500, which is pretty good but not dirt cheap I guess.

This horribly photographed Iceman was about 175 if I recall, and it's okay- not really giving any of my other guitars a run for their money, but nice.

I have an old 94' Jackson Kelly "Pro" Professional from Japan... The neck on that thing slays babys :) I bought 5 new USA Kellys tryin to find the same playability, it just didnt happen.. Japan won that fight.

Vintage is the brand. It's a company in the UK that makes knock offs and reproductions. AFAIK, they're not sold in the US. Not sure if it's lawsuit issues or distribution problems. Here's a link. http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintageiconguitars.html

Yeah vintage used to be encore way way back didn't it? virtually every uk guitarists first guitar was a Vintage/encore, my first acoustic was
