I would say more people have played the EVH amp then have played the VH4?

The other reason could be to simply mess with Reza.

The final reason could be you have created a lot of different accounts and voted to again, mess with Reza.

I guess for me, when I ring out a more complex chord do I hear all the notes clearly? With a lot of gain? And thats how I rank my favorite amps. SLO, Deliverance, Vintage Marshalls, Mark III and the VH4 all have really nice definition. I'm sure there are plenty more out there but those are the amps I've tried/owned. The EVH 50w I had(twice) just didn't have that. Good amp certainly....but didn't like it enough to keep it around. The Stealth I'm sure is up there too....like to try one.

But the third one is just low, even to a guy like me. Lol

I agree with the more people may have gotten to play/see the evh over the deizel as its not carried by as many merchants.

I've used both amps fairly extensively. First, they're not that similar in sound. Second, the "better sound" comparision its not as close as you think. Third, the Evh can be had used for 600 or so and covers anything rock to metal 80s-now very well. The perfect tone for any given style - no, but very good. Also, the 50 watt weighs like 25lbs. The price, flexibily, and ease of use/transportation mean a lot of people would rather have the evh.

Bingo. A lot of these more expensive amps like the Diezels are the kind of gear that the more time you spend with them, the more you realize that the "lesser" gear has deficiencies you didn't notice before. When I got my first VHT UL, I realized what a tight amp was. The herberts power section and 3 badass loops blew me away. At that point, a krank/diamond/carvin/etc just wasn't going to cut it for me anymore. Yes, I have some discretionary income. And I have had the 5153. It's gone, and the Diezels still around.

But I will eat a bologna sammich and water for lunch for months on end to save for something I want. I think the Herbert/UL/Peters/KRS/DAR amps are worth it.

Different strokes...I've had all the high end stuff too...and the EVH is still around. What I came to find personally was that the higher end amps had more features, but not so much improvement on the actual sound (different sounds, granted). Of course, that's based on the sound I was looking for. I don't think krank/diamond/carvin would cut it for me either, but I'd put EVH definitely in a class above that.

The first gen EVH 5153 I had developed the foot switching issue (while on tour) that plagued many of them. At that point I washed my hands of them. Just my personal experience and my opinion. The tone wasn't amazing or special to me. But again, if I was broke ass, I'd pop for a used 5153 50 watt or a used 6505/5150...just glad I can afford amps that I think fit me better.

Like I said, diffferent strokes. I can buy any amp(s) I want, and I ended up with EVH after I a/b it against a bunch of high end amps with my setup at the same time. Not into VH at all so that had nothing to do with it. Never had any switching issues and the 50 has MIDI anyway. I will say that the red channel seems like it needs a pickup with above average clarity and cut to sound its best. I can see how someone could get a meh impression using a fat-ish sounding pickup.

Voted VH4, even though I've never played one. I have a few old friends, some of them on here, who know what I like and have told me I'd dig it. Almost pulled the trigger numerous times but never found the right deal yet.

I did own the 5153 50w, and like many have said, different strokes.....I never sold an amp so fast in my fuckin life. It sounded like a giant distortion pedal to me....very one dimensional. I've always loved 5150s/6505s and figured the 5153 would be the next evolution. It wasn't, not for me. I'd take a 5150 or a 6505 any day of the week over that one.

Oddly enough I really like the 5153 sim in my AxeII, and it sounds great with my Wolfgang. Go figure...

Oh, it is incredibly complicated...you have to turn it on, plug a guitar into it and twist knobs and stuff. Very few can do it.

No offense Brent....but I always laugh when dudes try to defend their 'amp' by saying "you just didn't know how to dial it in." Lol. Most guys here dial an amp in with their ears, not eyes......the truth is if I had unlimited income I'd have kept one of my 5153s. Decent amp. But I have one 'king' (Jubilee ATM) and a backup....was thinking about another EVH until this JCM 800 bass amp popped up for less than a used 5153.
