How awesome was this guy?? He has got to be the king of in between chorus/verse/bridge pentatonic dweedles and doodles. Great squealies and vibrato too. I mean, you know all he is doing is pentatonics but somehow they don't get old for me like they do some people *cough cough Mr. Wydle post no More Tears....* Loved his tone too. Seems fairly straight forward DSD/JB into Marshall type thing but yet again, tone is in the fingers.. wish someone could Kemper his skills :(

He is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time!!! "No One Like You" is nothing without his lead melodies.

Man I knew his songs....but REALLY DISCOVERED him in "World Wide Live".....
Guy was such a kick ass player ...he really motivated me to play back as a early teen.
Shit was legendary!!!!!

I've said it many time before...one of my top five 80's metal guys and one of the most underrated players from any era. I loved everything about him...playing, tone, guitars, you name it.

I have a cassette somewhere that has a private lesson with Greg Howe where he talks about how great Mathias is and says that he has never been able to figure out how to play the opening lick to Bad Boys Running Wild correctly...he thought it was one of the most difficult licks he ever tried to play.

His solo 'vocal trade off' with Klaus on "I cant get enough" ....World Wide Live....
Still gets me this day!! EPIC!

Just a fabulous player and always a treat to listen to. Love his playing and style. Seen them a few times over the years and he never disappoints live.

:)

Definitely one of my top 5 fave guitarists. I love his style and it never gets old to me.

BTW, I'm pretty sure he used Dirty Finger pups.......not DSD or JB.

Did they make covered DF pickups? On the LAFS tour, his two Explorers had covered pickups. He also played a black Strat with a strange looking bar magnet humbucker.

Did backstage catering for them at the shoreline amphitheater. Great courteous gentleman. Learned a lot on how to run a business/brand. Love his fills in still living you.

Yeah it's all in the phrasing.

I was turning WWL day in day out on my record player as well as a teenager.

Met him on Musikmesse 2 years ago, nice guy.

His guitar business with totally overpriced youngtimers I don't get though. http://mjguitars.de/

The first introduction to Matthias Jabs was the Blackout album( I started a bit late with rock)The solo on the 1st song Blackout blew me away! I saw them opening for Rainbow and they kicked ass. The guitar tone was great! I couldn't understand how he can get all that gain from a 50 watt Marshall, and both Rudolf Shenker and Matthias had a wall of Marshalls behind them! It looked cool. They sounded better than Rainbow and the mix was clean and the guitar tones wa huge! My band starts the 2nd set with Rock you like a Hurricane and his solo sounds simple but is one of the solos I have the hardest time getting it right because of his phrasing. He does this backwards pull offs at the end of the intro solo that's quick and cool. The Blackout album is my favorite album from the Scorpions!

Arizona really was a gas
I was screwed up in a total mess
Mindblowing all the way you know
Just out of sight

Love this tune & so many others. Such great phrasing, tone & tunes from the Scorps!!!

Uli Jon Roth & many of the '70s tunes from them are totally killer as well!

Can't really add anything different. He is a very underrated player. .perfect fit for that band.Great tone, great played. .always seemed to play the right part. Not too much not too little. .Awesome
