Let's talk about solid state amplifiers!

I fuckin love the Peavey XXL. I think it's probably one the best amps I've ever owned...it could always hang with a loud band, had more than one cool sound in it and basically could get evil as fuck. had nice THUMPY low end too...

I dunno. I flip amps from time to time and my VH140Cs will go nowhere.

tech 21 tradmark 60 is a great amp nobody talks about them anymore all analog. my gorilla G-10 is a beast (low watt trend)

Juggernaut's signature is too distracting. I can't get any reading done on this website anymore. I don't know what the hell any of you are even talking about right now.

My current SS amps...

Anyone every try a Fender METALHEAD? Loud as all hell...

If you put a tube Pre in front of it, didn't sound that bad...

AND I tell you what... I had a Marshall AVT150 that sounded pretty good!

you know, for SS - i actually liked the fender metalhead's cleans.

sounds gay, but to this day, i still remember being quite shocked at how good it was flipping from the lead channel onto the clean

madison prophecy for the death metal tone. randall x2 and the dime amp are great s/s heads.

i would love to add the ampeg 140 to the collection. and a marshall 8100/8200 also.

and yes, i hated the isp theta head. i was so convinced i was doing something wrong, i had another bro who could dial in anything borrow it for 2 months. he couldn't do anything with it either. i may have gotten a bad one.....but i doubt it. there is a good reason they are not burning up the forums. how many people do you see playing them? they have been out for years, but we don't seem to see them much.

the isp guitar sub, however.......BOOM!!! greatest thing i ever bought.

Anyone remember a Randall rack-mount amp like that HG 100 T up there but it had a black face, and only the two channels--no EQ, no reverb?

so i remembered a solid state amplifier that kicked all kinds of ass but are somewhat rare and not mentioned much....

a fender M-80 head :D

i plugged into one with the grey carpet - looked like something straight out of a 1980's catelog - and my god was that a surprise. heavy as hell and had the snarling grind going on. MUCH heavier than the randall T2's that i have played.

hey Mike - what did you think of the randall stereo power amplifier? what can you tell me about it?

I saw Veil of Maya the other week, and the guitarist was running a Randall V2 (at least I think thats what it was, SS randall of some sort with a GEQ). They definitely had the best tones that night, imo.

I have been on one website where they kept insisting that the only SS worth playing was the Roland Cube.

I have an old Marshall SS combo that is still a good amp. People always seem to think I sound good on it. Maybe because I am so familiar with the old girl. I think a lot of my playing style developed around it because it was my first amp. Some things had to be relearned when I switched to tubes.

Someone needs to sell me a Madison Prophecy, right goddamn now.

I got rid of the VS100 because it's crap and I have a young friend that was playing a MG50. :bleh:

I don't think the Ampeg will ever leave my collection. I almost bought a 6505 a couple weeks ago, but once it got in the same room with the VH140C it sunk into the shadows, it couldn't sound as defined and tight in comparison. I remember why I sold my 5150 now.

I want a new amp. Something cheap, solid state, and brutal. I don't need any bells and whistles.

Shit! I had both those heads. AVT was pretty good and so was the Metalhead but the red channel was fucking noisy. Neither were that bad for the cost. Although the AVT is a "Hybrid" So do we still call it SS or what? Is it more SS than tube so lean to SS category? Eh, whatever. Just sayin.

It's cool brother. I don't know, maybe I got a special one. For reference I have the Madison prophecy today but I wish I had the Theta back. The reason I think you don't see them tearing up the forums is because no one in their right mind would pay $1600 for a Solid state amp. I payed $800 used and that was pushing it. The dude I sold it to was as happy as a pig in shit. It slayed with the sub and we definately agree ISP subs rule the world.

I will gladly take the Madison off your hands so you can fund another Theta.

  My luck I would get the dud Rotting Corpse got. Besides, I like my Prophecy and I fuckin stole it! $250 FTMFW

so, I've stated my love for the XXL. I have a chance to snag another...but at the same time I have been eyeing the Marshall AVT150H (but let me clarify, I don't have any interest in the digital effects built in, just the 4 channels)
Can any one compare/contrast the XXL and the AVT150h?
