So my band has decided to pay tribute to Eddie at our next show. We decided that we're going to cover Drop Dead Legs. Mainly because the song is cool AF and not everyone and their brother covers it. There is definitely some serious modulation going on in this song. However, it sounds more like chorus than the eventide pitch-shift. If anyone would like to speculate on what's actually going on effects wise, I'm all ears. I want to do this right in honor of Ed. Thanks in advance!

mxr big yellow analog box but I think that is eventide on that recording.

Roland DC30.
The MXR EVH Chorus will get you there, Pete Thorn has a demo of it I think.

And isn't this 1 of the songs he said he used the vintage Flying V on?...

Man I love DDL.
You be sure and record that shit when y'all cover it.

And...just my opinion...without a stereo rig it's a difficult modulation to nail. But it'll be close enough live I'm sure....coming through that Splawn. Hell yes!

Effects will be the least of your worries on that song. It's a minefield. That's one of those AC/DC-like songs, where everyone thinks it's played one way, while it's a whole other thing to play it correctly. That outro groove is ridiculous and the drums are every bit as great as the guitar. Can you lay down the rhythm part with a looper and then solo over it? Good luck! Must see the video.

Can't help with the pitch/chorus stuff but just wanted to say good luck and have fun.

Very cool and different song for VH IMO as it has this sludgy feel to it as it plows along. Looper may be a great idea.

Good call, not sure if he used the ‘58 korina V, procured by Dan Erlewhine, on this but he used it a bunch on this album.

he only used the v on hot for teacher to switch pickups from dirty to clean parts on the rhythms and frankie for the lead
that eventide is THE sound of that track
it's just dripping with too much harmonozer  :D
no way is it just chorus which may haver been used just for some stereo spread
that outro solo is a mini tribute to holdsworth and i've always wondered how much longer it actually went on for before they pulled the fade on it.
it fucking KILLS!

The outro soolo is one of my favs (who'm I kidding, they're all my favs)...but man do I love that outro rhythm track. It's such a funky groove. When your playing it and can actually get on time with the drums and bass line. Holy shit it absolutely kills.

Yeah... digging into the songs, I have bitten off a lot. lol! The main rhythm groove is a beast to play, but I'm getting it there. The real fun part is where I need to get my hands to go 3-5-7 3-5-7, 5-7-9 5-7-9 etc... lol I had a hand injury several years ago that make stretches like that really fun lol I'll figure out a way to make it work, because Ed deserves that attention to detail. I'll probably stick to more of their live version of the song, as the outdo is two separate guitar parts on the album. If I can pull it off, it will be an epic benchmark for me personally.

I finally got the detune on my Mobius to sound close enough for most people. Though I do see where an H9 would get me closer.

He did use the korina Flying V on Drop Dead Legs: (it's a good read, but if you want to skip to the part pertaining to Drop Dead Legs, scroll down to right below the video of him playing Panama on David Letterman)
