Never thought I'd want an actual fuzz box but something has me wanting one.
Dunlop has the Joe B and Eric Johhnson models. There's a ton out to pick from.
What are your favorites?

I have built a few. All based around the Fuzz Face circuit.

I hear good things about the Dunlop BC108 Fuzz but there are about a million other fuzz pedals out there.

I guess it depends on what your going for. You should check out some Demo's on you tube to get an Idea of what all these different fuzzes do.

I actually dig the FZ-5 from Boss... shoot me, I know. I like it though! :)

For a classic smooth vintage fuzz, Hartman Germanium Fuzz is excellent.
Bingo.

It's all in the germanium bits - how they heat up and choke.

The Dirty Boy Germanium Boy 2.0 sounds real nice. The $379 not so much.

Depends what sound your shooting for. The Dunlop EJ and Jimi Hendrix are very good. I like Fulltone's stuff and my favs, I kept thru the years are the Roger Mayer fuzzes. Here's my collection-

I've got EJ (silicon) and JB (germanium) Dunlop Fuzzes. Both are great, but different. If you want smooth get a JB. If you want spitty and mean, get an EJ. Also, the JB, was originally built to be the EJ sig, but he didn't approve. JB loved it and now it's his. I personally like germanium a bit more...

Looking for a smooth sounding fuzz. JB might be the one to try.

Tones of fuzzes out there. I was kind of late to the party, only fuzz I used before a few years ago were Big Muffs.

I now have a Hartman BC-108 (Si Fuzz Face clone), Blackout effectors Musket (Big Muff with more knobs), and a BYOC leads fuzz (Super Fuzz clone)

The only one I am missing is a germanium Fuzz face. Its on the list, not sure which one to get though. My favorite is the Leads fuzz. I also really like the Musket too, those are the 2 I use the most.

The Z Vex Fuzz Factory is the coolest unit that I've ever used by a long shot. You can dial it in to sound like pretty much any other fuzz, or like no other fuzz. That said, its controls are extremely sensitive and interactive...to the point that I feel its a better studio tool than it is for live use...too easy to accidentally "lose" your sound.

I've tried so many over the years and have had quite a few and I always sell them. They're fun at home but never work for me in a band. A trio maybe but with another guitar or keyboard not a chance.
I'll likely get gas for another one though!

Zvex Fuzz Factory can sound like just about any vintage or modern fuzz and it has germanium trannies for really nice warm tone when dialed in that way. Another great fuzz face spinoff is the MJM London Fuzz. Both the Germanium and Silicon versions are nice but the Germanium is the shit!

i'll throw the sub decay flying tomato into the mix. great, versatile little fuzzer!

There are SO many flavors of Fuzz; Fuzz Face, Big Muff,SupraFuzz,ToneBender etc etc etc. Personally, Im a fan of both Germanium and Silicon Face Face styles and for that, I like the JB and EJ Dunlop Fuzzes, The Fulltone 69 and 70 fuzzes, The MJM Ge and Si London Fuzzes and the Hartman SFZ Dual Fuzz that has a Si FF on one side and a Ge FF on the other....

Seriously, you can go berserk trying to find what you hear in your head because it seems like every single pedal builder out there has several different fuzz offerings and they all do different things and react differently... I was lucky to find what I was looking for pretty quickly

All of these mentions on fuzzes and no one has yet to mention Devi?
I am truly shocked at that.

Never heard of them. I see they do have a ton of fuzz pedals though. Do you have a favorite?

Devi is rapidly climbing the tower of fame, so to speak.
And it is so damn cute, there I said it, to have watched her from 2003 in her moms garage to owning an actual company with people to do things as well as make an entire new pedal platform at which a bunch of cool companies are jumping on (the Consoles)

Her fuzzes come in a HUGE array of styles and flavors and aren't over the top crazy in price, however, what I'm urging people to do is look at those damn consoles... maybe I should start a thread about them alone lol.

Fuzz/Muff is def up to the user, lots of stuff out there just depends on what you are trying to come up with. I personally favor germ into Marshall type amps and silicon into fender type amps. My favorites at this point are the big box Fulltone 69, very tweakable germ type that can go from a gritty drive to very heavy fuzz, and a Skreddy Lunar Module, again very tweakable silicon type, same way can go from gritty to close to a muff type and reaks of Gilmour. Have had both of these for a while and lots of hours on them. Wren and Cuff are next on my list FWIW.
