I hate it when people say things like this but...this pic is full of all kinds of win.

How's the intonation on the Les Paul?

The intonation was great. I let it go a while back because the neck was too big. It was a great sounding guitar.

When I was younger I used to think those Juniors were dorky, but I really love them now. So simple and classy. Funny how your tastes change as you mature. ;)

If you want a Tele get a nice Fender one. The Road Worn's are great. I would not get any of the Deluxes, split coils, humless etc... Get a real Tele. I'm a Tele guy bigtime, I recently got a Road Worn and threw a set of Lolar Special Ts in it, inspired by a Nash Tele we had at the studio for a while that was killer. The Road Worn with Lolars is deadly. The only mod I did was a got a Fender vintage bridge (6 saddle version) and replaced the original tail piece. For me I can't play a Tele with 3 saddles, the intonation issues are a killer in the studio. My ear is way to acute for tuning for that scene. But get a good Fender, it's classic.

James,

If I do end up using it for high gain, the stock pickups, or even the replacements you mentioned, are going to buzz like crazy, aren't they? That is unless I use the middle pickup position.

The American Standard I'm getting will need the input jack and bridge saddles replaced (it has individual ones), as I mentioned before. I think I may give the stock pickups a shot before I think about getting new or upgrading.

Right now I have a Tele Hot-Rails (I was thinking about getting a Hot Stack), and a Vintage Stack, all by Seymour Duncan, from an old tele I got rid of, that COULD go in this axe. Think I should go for it? I just want maximum versatility.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, it's just my taste. I love the sound of a Tele. Nothing blends like a Tele and a Paul, it's peanut butter and jelly and one of the bedrocks that rock music was built on. The Deluxe hum canceling pickups do not sound like a Tele to my ears. They are to balanced and smooth, they don't gack the same way. I think if you're looking for the quintessential tele sound you loose it with them. The hum is a part of the deal, it doesn't usually bother me to much and I've found ways around it over the years. BUT if you're just looking for a guitar that you're gonna love, that sounds the way you like it then a Deluxe or a G&L or hot rails etc...will be fine. Those are all great guitars.

I just put a set of Fralin 'Stocks' in one of my teles. WOW! That's f'n a sweet ass tele sound. I can't wait to hear Andy Wood on it.  Makes you want to put on a Brent Mason record!

Thanks for popping back in James. I ended up buying the one I posted above. It has Alnico V single coils. I'm going to play around and see if I like it.

Seriously, give the BKP Piledrivers a spin. Absolutely killer with a high gain amp and they still retain ALL the Tele tone. Respond incredibly well to volume knob changes, too.

Well... I hate to bring the pain... but...

Two of the last five George Riszanyi Custom Shop Guitars in existence...

Awesome custom neck plates:

The curly maple w/curly maple neck (prior to hardware install)--according to George, the top on the maple is not finished--it is cured at an extremely high temperature to caramelize the sugars in the wood, leaving a satin finish.

Both play like butter and sound like angels weeping...

George has made custom guitars for the likes of Keith Richards and James Taylor.

Nice tele's!

I've got the tele love...I was playing it all last night. I like the nice chimey and percussive pick attack that it has...it's addicting.

The only pic of the last Tele I had, 52 reissue, couldn'y bond with the little tiny frets, so off she went!

Looking for a replacement though!

Here's mine... and yes... I do play in an all girl country/western band now...

I dig it too and don't think it is girly either, but I got that question last time I posted it, so I thought I'd circumvent it.

Man I really like that paint job. I am looking for a Tele but not the standard solid colors or trans finishes.

Fralin Steel Poles are nice for high gain playing while still retaining the tele character. Hum is part of a the Tele vibe, you just learn to deal with it. Also you must learn to use your tone control or you will take peoples heads off, not in the good way.

I've had a 59 jr., Hot Rails, EMG, GFS, and a Fralin in my tele. The Fralin wins out by far. GFS not bad, the neck pickup is still in as it sounds very good. The neck pickup on the EMG was also excellent.

A good tele sounds like a really pissed off strat. Who wouldn't love that?

That finish is called Antigua...pretty difficult to find. That one just happened to fall into my lap at the time...it was a Japanese Fender. Warmoth will do that paint scheme, but it doesn't quite have the same 'aged' look to it IMO.
