I am considering picking one of these up used. Anyone have experience with them? I'm told they sound awesome but are a nightmare to program.

Basically I want something that will replace ALL of my other stuff, which means the ability to place some effects in front of my preamp (peavey rockmaster) and some after. It needs to be high-end; i won't compromise on delay quality and I need pitch-shifting that tracks accurately. If someone knows of something other than the mpx-g2 that meets these criteria I'm all ears; just don't mention the TC G System. It's great but is way too expensive, even used.

The manual is longer than the Lord Of The Rings
If you have that much free time, you're better off learning how to use AutoCAD and become a designer; learning how to program the MPXG2 will take you as long

Seriously, I traded one to a dude once; he called me back the next day asking me if I had anything else at all, and he settled for a Rocktron Intellifex...

Just taking the preamp section out of the signal is a total chore.

That's what i hear. I'm pretty good with that sort of thing but am still leery. Do you know of another single-unit system that will allow me to split effects up between the front of the preamp and the back (other than the ridiculously expensive G System)?

4 Cable Method on regular multi effect?

"Guitar to the FX unit input, the FX unit Send to the amp input, the amp FX Send to the FX unit Return, and finally the FX unit output to the amp FX Return. This way you can get all the effects in the right place relative to the amp's preamp."

digitech 2101...not as much of a nightmare to program if you dont want it to be.

superb sound quality.

grab one cheap, if you hate it, dump it for the same amount on ebay.

I had one, and didn't dig the delays at all. For reference, I currently use TC Electronic for delay and I use delay on almost everything. If the delays aren't at least that good it's a deal-breaker.

Lex mpxg2 I bought when brand new need to be a rocket scientist to program. Sounded great but by now dated. Gmajor2 is ecellent

Digitech GSP1101 awesome zero tone suck. Fx r excellent.

As i said, I had a 2101. I have to say i respectfully disagree with you on FX quality; some of it was really good and some of it was horrible.

Could always check out a BOSS GT-Pro or Line 6 PODHD Pro.

I do like the Boss stuff but I need good harmonizers and didn't like the delays as well as my standalone TC Electronic delay pedal. And to be honest, years of road experience has left me with very little good to say about Line 6.

The G Major is a terrific processor but I need 4-wire config.

I know what most of you are going to say and you're right: I'm looking for G System quality and features but don't want to pay G System prices. I think I've got it, tho... I just pulled the trigger on an MPX-G2 with the matching MPX-R1 midi controller and i got 'em so cheap that if I don't line them I can sell for a profit. I've managed to network with someone who's been using one for years and will help me with the programming. I'll let you know how it goes...

Always a weird sentiment to me - If it sounded great, it still sounds great. Great tones are always great. Maybe out of favor, but still great. ;)
