Just arriving at stores...one guy I know that works at GC just got a shipment, but they're not in customers hands yet.

Overpriced Fizzbox?

Folks seem to like the Pod 500 floor units. I had about 3 L6 rack units. I found them to be less then desirable to the ears. Have used them with Mesa 20/20's , Mesa 2:90's Rocktron solid state. All sounded fizzy.

I would guess it sounds like all line 6 gear. Shit. They are the new digitech/dod

This one is supposed to sound better but L6 is never getting any more of my $, fuck them.

I've never owned a POD for over a month. I learned my lesson after the last one

I hope

Company like that surely has the r&d budget to take on fractal and kemper.
It looks like a cool unit and really well thought out. The amp models don't cut it from what I've heard. To compete, it kinda has to rival its competition at a better price point.

I don;t think their amp models have ever delivered to be honest. I have heard guys get some good recordings but I have to listen with the filter of "This does't sound like a Soldano but it's a decent rock tone".

Also, their customer service/update history sucks from my experience. Look at Fractal and Kemper, they are always looking at ways to not only enhcance the user experience but also make the sounds better. AND they listen to their customers.

How do you know this. You have not played it or is this another snobby rigtalk bs opinion?

The Helix stuff is a lot different than your typical Line 6 stuff in the past. I felt the same way as I never got along with it....that is until I got to hear one close up both through a solid FRFR and through headphones. I was pretty shocked....enough to sell my main rig. It's that good. I need something smaller and simpler and the rack version of this thing is absolutely killer. I've had a few Kemper units as well.

Do tell how are the hi gain amps.
Line6 effects have been always good. It's the Amps they pretty much always sounded the same
Less fizz or more fizz ... But I have watched the few clips on it.

ah a fellow canuk .lol

Wow thats a Huge statement , selling the Marshall Satriani and Two Notes.

I am excited for this I have the Axe 2 and there is more stuff in there I never use .

I am going Helix or AX8 for the recording side and smaller grab and go rig,

I lOVE the Helix UI, I just want to hear a few of the amps dry like the UBER etc

Which models did you Check out ?

If someone could post some clips of its amps (DRY), that would be great!..its so hard sometimes to hear the core tone of such units, as they for some reason think they have to add an effect such as: swirl- compulator- hyperpingpong- death ray stun- mars verb- into the marshall plexi amp block...really? lol..I want to like all these units( helix,fx8,ax8,etc,) but please give us some dry amp tones.

I don't know this, that's why my statement had a ? at the end of it. I'm not a line 6 hater either. I have an Amplifi 150 that I use on trips and stuff and a full stagesource PA system from them.

I'm curious....what forum isn't full of snobby bs opinion?? Cuz this one seems to be at a minimum compared to others...just sayin....

This place is mild compared to TGP.

At least on here there's discussions about more than Fender Strats and Deluxe Reverbs and The Beatles

No matter what... It will kick some asses.
The question is only whoms asses.

They were solid! I am not a huge fan of the amps they chose for the launch. I would have rather they included a VH-4, an XTC, a Herbert, 5150 III, etc. They were far better than what I have heard in the past. They had not put in any custom IRs but you will really be able to have some fun with that. Again, this is my perception from using the Line 6 stuff before and having owned a few Kemper units as well as my current rig.

The FX are fantastic on the unit as well! I was only able to hear it for about 10 minutes as it was on it's way to another store for a demo for the retail sales staff. I was pretty lucky to be there at the time.

Let me tell you something, friend. I love the JVM Satch amp with the cab I had and the Two-Notes. I haven't sold the Two-Notes as of yet. I'm still contemplating that one but I may have to.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of your choices. The AX8 sounds great as well. I just hope they release it soon.
I have the Friedman SM-12 on order as my FRFR setup. In my case, more and more I'm playing venues where I just need to plug into the FOH setup and go. I mean it is super easy with he Satch, two-notes and pedalboard to do. I wasn't usually bringing a cabinet with me. However, if I can remove about 30-40lbs with the head, I'm saving my ever aching back. I'm not getting any younger. The Friedman FRFR isn't all that much lighter but it is much more convenient to carry around for me at least when I have to.

I wasn't able to play through it as it was a retail demo or commonly know as a product knowledge session for the employees. I asked the gent demoing to play a few of the higher gain amp setups. I heard the 5150, Ubershall, and the Shiva. They sounded fabulous. There were effects on with them. I didn't get to hear the Engl or the SLO. I also didn't get to hear them switch out the cabinets. However, the cabs I heard had way more dimension to them. I love the fact that they were showing the editing right on the unit and it looks so intuitive. The display is fabulous!

The only one who will be able to make the call on this is your ears because we all hear everything differently. It's going to be a long wait as I ordered the rack mount version with the control. They probably won't be ready until December.

Either way, I'm not suffering at all. I have a friends Bogner XTC that I am borrowing for the time being. He hates the amp. He has about every other high gain brand out there as he is a collector. I put a delay in the loop and this thing just sings!

I don't know what is wrong with him! This is my dream amp!
but alas...it isn't mine........

Love this vid of the Helix!
Fantastic player!
