I wanna get some basic recordings onto my computer. I've been looking at getting a UX2 and POD farm. With that program can I just mic my Mesa or do I need to use the amps in the program? Also, can I record vocals with this set up? And finally, does it have a drum program built in or would I need to use something like EZDrummer?

You can mic your Mesa. Either use it to record dry, or use one of the preamp models (Avalon, Neve, etc.)
You can definitely record vocals
You need EZ Drummer or something, because it doesn't have drums built in.

so, if I use a ux2, along with pod farm and ezdrummer for drums and then also reaper would that be a pretty decent set up?

Yes, I use this same setup for demo ideas (execpt ezdrummer) and it works great! The pod farm is awesome for scratch track ideas, and easily combining fx ideas.

I was thinking about the UX2 as well, I think Ed Degenaro posted awhile back on some interesting uses of this?

I nearly purchased this, http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=180229 then I learned the Konnekt series was being discontinued so I'm waiting to see what comes next, and I spent my gear fund on other things ;) so recording will need to wait again! Besides, I'm selling my Mac so firewire is out, I'll need to go with a USB version for audio interface

I simply cannot sing the praises of Reaper enough....you can really do some great tracks with it. I don't like most Line 6 stuff, but the UX1/2/8 and the 4 switch pedal, DM/FM pedals are badass. They are awesome songwriting tools!!

does reaper work on a mac? is it compatible with garageband?

I use the UX2 with EZ Drummer and GarageBand, and it works great. If you're going to use GB, you don't need Reaper, or vice versa. I used to use Reaper on PC when that was my main machine.

I really like Reaper, but now that I'm on a Mac, I just prefer GB.
