Hey guys, I made this video about how I go about getting Linkin Park's tone from Meteora and Hybrid Theory. Let me know what you think!

I was thinking the EXACT thing.

1. Mesa Recto even though I felt a VH4 could pull it off.
2. Bennington....

And Cornell, Weiland, Lemmy, fuck...brutal couple years of loss.

Sure! It's just a Dead Horse Overdrive, volume full, tone neutral, gain off.

Your presentation is good, even if the tone misses the mark.

Some constructive criticism: I'd work on mic placement and amp settings a bit more. Stay off modern mode if that's what you're using (sounds like it). You'd get closer with something like a Beyerdynamic M160 ribbon mic than an SM57. C90 speaker isn't ideal either. It'll compound the scooped tone in modern mode. 50 watt Rectifiers are more strident than their bigger brothers, so you'll be fighting all those factors combined.

The tone in your video is more congested and ratty than Linkin Park's first two albums. Their isolated guitar tracks are warmer than you'd expect. At least you acknowledged that they didn't use Rectifiers alone--the reality is they weren't used at all. I'm a big fan of NRG Studios and have done some deep dives into their work with regards to guitar tones.

Thank you for the comments! I am always open to advice! I've never looked into ribbon mics, and dont really know where to start with them. I want to research the M160 you mentioned.

You mentioned staying off modern mode... What mode do you like for this type of tone? Also what's your favorite signal chain for this tone?

Ideal signal chain would be SM57 or Sennheiser MD421 blended with a ribbon mic (M160 or Royer 121). Best speakers would be V30 or G12M25. You could pick up a used Two Notes Torpedo Live for not much more than a cheap ribbon mic though, and that would give you a whole toolbox of tones.

Oh cool, I didn't consider a G12 speaker. I really could use a Torpedo though. Mic'ing cabs can be a pain - loud too haha. I'm actually using a V30 for my own tunes. I prefer the V30 to anything else at the moment.

Cool stuff man, you got me interested in researching microphones a little more. Also, the vintage mode on rectos sounds great too

OP nice work. I have to give you credit, while according to Snave you missed the mark, a good ribbon mic is about the price of of your amp on the used market. So for your budget I think you did a great job. Nice video production too.

As a gentle little thought on improvment was that your timing was inconsistent. Get some time in with a metronome and click track.
